To the familiar strains of Queen’s “We Are The Champions,” actress/director and Hillary Clinton supporter Elizabeth Banks made her entrance Tuesday at the Democratic National Convention, lurching back and forth and bathed in gaudy silhouette and tacky fog.
It was a horrifying reminder of what happened in Cleveland last week, and caused instant PTSD (Post Trump Stress Disorder).
Banks stepped up to the mic and confessed “You know, I don’t usually say this about Donald Trump, but that was over the top. I confirmed it just now.”
The quips continued, with Banks remarking “The Trump campaign is so hard up for money, I just bought that fog machine on Ebay for 30 bucks. I don’t feel good about it.”
After pumping up the audience and asking “Who wants to pound some cheesesteaks with me after this,” Banks properly introduced herself, telling the cheering crowd “I’m Elizabeth Banks. Some of you know me from The Hunger Games, in which I play Effie Trinket, a cruel out of touch reality TV star who wears insane wigs while delivering long-winded speeches to a violent dystopia. So when I tuned into Cleveland last week I was like, hey, that’s my act.”
Boom.
Banks spoke about her upbringing, and how she and future husband Max went on a “big romantic date” in 1992, a “rally for Bill Clinton.”
“It was there that I first learned something very important about show business. The headliner should always watch out for someone stealing the show. Hillary Clinton rocked my world.”
