‘Trump fatigue’ is real and it’s sweeping the nation. Here’s why we must stay woke.

From: Queerty
Are you tired of hearing about Donald Trump? Do the words “Melania,” “Ivanka,” “fake news,” and “Russia” no longer make you want to cringe, tremble convulsively, or cry yourself to sleep? Do you find yourself no longer phased by that daily barrage of doomful news?

If so, you might be suffering from Politics Fatigue Syndrome, a comically unofficial disorder coined by NPR that is plaguing millions in the United States. Major symptoms include feelings of sheer exhaustion, disdain, and utter hopelessness for anything political-related. In other words, it’s that feeling of being so fucking over it (“it” being Trump).

And the masses are starting to feel it. Whether plastered on social media, or magnified in comment sections online, there is no denying that people are growing weary of Trump’s constant orange presence on every screen imaginable.

Not that reporter Mark Joseph Stern, who write about LGBTQ issues for Slate, necessarily blames those complaining. After all, it seems one cannot go a single minute without news breaking about the president or his cabinet, he says.

“It feels as though, if you step away from Twitter for even a few minutes, you will have lost an entire news cycle, or missed some huge development,” Stern tells Queerty. “There is just a constant flow of leaks, drama and bombshells from the [Trump] administration, and it certainly feels exhausting, not just as a reporter, but as a private citizen. Keeping up with everything is really tiring.”

At the same time, Stern realizes there is a certain luxury in being able to say something like that.

“I think it is a sign of privilege to be able to say, ‘I am tired of hearing about Trump and the government,’” he says. “Because if, for instance, you are an undocumented immigrant, or a person that relies on the Affordable Care Act to receive health insurance, you don’t have the luxury of not thinking about [Trump and his administration], since [they] have an incredible amount of power over you and your life.”

It is Trump’s potentially dangerous power that ultimately inspired GLAAD, the famed LGBTQ advocacy organization, to start the Trump Accountability Project (TAP), a resource for journalists and others to “go find the facts about the people Trump is surrounding himself with,“ according to Drew Anderson, GLAAD’S Director of News & Rapid Response.

“We want to send a message to the President that we are unified as one and will hold him accountable every step of the way,” says Anderson of the project.

This includes not giving into Trump’s distraction tactics.

“The President hopes that all the distractions he creates will cause Americans – and the media – to become confused and disengaged from what’s really happening in Washington, because that’s when Trump and the U.S. Congress will pass measures that harm the most vulnerable, including the LGBTQ community,” Anderson says.

So, as a reporter, how does Stern avoid giving into these distractions, or becoming burnt out himself? He has established a few rules, he says: Once finished with work for the day, Stern will try to shut down his computer for the night; he’ll take his dog on multiple walks throughout the day; he also makes a point to power off his cell phone one hour before bed. There is even a rule for his partner.

“My partner is forbidden from telling me any political news the hour before bed as well,” Stern notes, a clear smile in his voice. “He is barred from doing so, he is not happy about it, but that is the way it is.”

Both Stern and Anderson agree that it is important to keep fighting, even in the face of ‘Trump fatigue.’

As a member of it himself, Stern feels it is the media’s obligation to continue calling out Trump’s wrongdoings.

“I think the press does have a real duty to keep covering this administration very vigorously, and I would be gravely disappointed if the press fell down on that duty.” Stern says, before adding, “The kind of misconduct that Trump routinely engages in thrives in secrecy, but cannot thrive when exposed to sunlight.”

For GLAAD, it all comes down to maintaining the progress that has been made, not just for the LGBTQ community, but other marginalized groups as well.

“With all the progress we’ve made as a community, we have to fight any sort of political fatigue that may exist in order to keep our progress moving forward and [not] backward,” says Anderson. “It’s especially important that we lock arms with the most vulnerable and marginalized among us – particularly transgender people, people of color, Muslims, and immigrants. Our message at GLAAD is that if you attack one of us, you’re attacking all of us. And we will fight back.”

‘Fans of Love’ Ad Offers Incredibly Moving Twist on the Kiss-Cam

From: Towleroad
The Ad Council has partnered with both the NFL and creative agency R/GA to produce the latest offering from the “Love Has No Labels” campaign that features a “kiss-cam” highlighting diversity in couples and pairings. It was released to coincide with Valentine’s Day this week and centers on the audience at the Orlando Pro Bowl football game in January.

Their 2015 viral video used x-ray imagery to demonstrate the innate nature of love no matter its gender identity, sexual orientation, race or age. This time around, it uses the familiar sports phenomenon of a “kiss-cam,” in which a camera pans over the stadium searching for couples to zoom in on and flash onto the Jumbotron big screen to prompt them to kiss for cheering fans, to put the spotlight on nontraditional duos. It begins by centering a heart-shaped overlay on a man and woman in the crowd, but then switches over to the left so the man could kiss his male partner to his right instead. The twist is greeted with applause and cheers.

The crowd then shows its appreciation in turn for an older African-American straight couple, a lesbian couple—one of whom is wearing an Orlando survivor t-shirt—as well as two young men with Down’s syndrome who hug each other warmly. The video is accompanied by this message:

For years, kiss cams have been a big part of American sports culture. This year, Love Has No Labels puts a twist on the kiss cam by turning it into a symbol for unbiased love. In the stadium, fans cheered for love in all its forms – regardless of race, gender, disability, age or religion.

Love Has No Labels is a movement to open our eyes to unconscious bias. While the vast majority of Americans consider themselves unprejudiced, many of us unintentionally make snap judgments about people based on what we see – whether it’s race, age, gender, religion, sexuality, or disability. By becoming aware of our own biases, we can work to end bias in ourselves, our families, our friends, and our communities. Rethink bias at www.lovehasnolabels.com.

With the NFL demonstrating its willingness to put pressure on Texas against the passage of an anti-transgender bathroom bill, and its collaboration in the shooting of this video, it is providing an example of how cultural influences—even those sometimes problematically associated with toxic masculinity—can step in even when political setbacks seem to threaten progress. The ad’s creators provided their own insights into the video’s origins:

“The message is not political, it’s apolitical,” said Eric Jannon, an executive creative director at R/GA, adding that the campaign was more than a year in the making. “We’ll keep embracing diversity regardless of what’s going on in the White House.”

“I do believe that releasing this piece of film at this moment in time will be incredibly powerful,” said Ad Council CEO and President Lisa Sherman. She is hoping that all the people “looking for images and messages of coming together” will boost the latest version of the campaign.

“We noticed that [the iconic kiss cam] was often focused on traditional notions of love. We thought, what if we could showcase a more modern take?” said Chris Northam, another executive creative director at R/GA who worked on the spot. “We hope it does cause conversation and, more than anything else, that the fans embrace this message and help spread this movement.”

HAPPY PRESIDENT’S DAY! PICK THE HOTTEST PRESIDENT!

From: Manhunt Daily
 Happy President’s Day!

It’s that day when we celebrate all things presidential (except the current one)! Because this is Manhunt Daily, we need to make it filthy! I’ve rounded up 10 of what I think are the hottest presidents the US has ever been gifted with/enjoyed/dealt with/endured (as American citizens know – it can vary), and you must pick one to fuck! Pretend you’ve been invited to the Lincoln Bedroom to get it on with one of these leaders of the free world!

 Our first President
George Washington

He had wooden teeth, so that might be a deal-breaker. But he was the original. And he’s on the money!

Our fourth President
James Madison

He’s not a bad-looking guy. The wig’s kind of a turn-off. OK, I must confess, most of our presidents haven’t been lookers.

 Our 11th President
James K. Polk

They’re looking slightly more human. If you’re a pacifist, you’re probably not going to dick around with Polk seeing as he led us into war with Mexico.

 Our 18th President
Ulysses S. Grant

If you’re into hipster otters who won us the Civil War, have I got a president for you!

 Our 26th President
Theodore Roosevelt

What can I say? I like problematic bears. (He was pretty much the original bear. They named the beloved bedtime companion after him. Which bedtime companion? Please note that his name isn’t “President Dildo.”)

 Our 31st President
Herbert Hoover

I chose Herbie for sentimental reasons. I went through a phase when I was younger where I was really into older businessman types (No, I wasn’t a hooker. Yet!). Hoover looks sort of, kinda, if the lights were off a dude with whom I tricked once. He was terrible and quickly cured me of my brief fetish.
 Our 35th President
John F. Kennedy Jr.

Oh, John. I would have been your Marilyn Monroe if only our paths had crossed. You were handsome, heroic, and from my home state. You were the first sexy president, and you’re still sorely missed (especially when considering the dick kick we’re dealing with now).

 Our 40th President
Ronald Reagan

In many ways, Reagan was a great president. And maybe you’re into the whole Hollywood cowboy thing. In other, more important ways, he could have saved the lives of a lot of gay people. So fuck that guy.

 Our 42nd President
Bill Clinton

Who doesn’t love Slick Willie (besides Republicans and that poor girl in the beret)? Bill Clinton was probably one of the more charismatic presidents we’ve ever had. Dude liked to fuck, but he went about it in a shifty manner. I guess if you’re into slick dudes with disarming accents….

Our 44th President
Barack Obama

The class act that is President Obama will not only go down in history as the first African-American president. He will also go down in history as “THE MOST MISSED PRESIDENT IN US HISTORY CONSIDERING THE ROTTEN FASCIST SOCIOPATH ORANGE THAT REPLACED HIM.”

MOVIE MONDAY: LA LA LAND WINS BEST FILM AT THE 2017 BAFTA AWARDS

From: Bear World
Filmmaker Damien Chazelle’s love letter to the Golden Era of Hollywood musicals, La La Land has been among the front-runners in the quest to be crowned Best Picture by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences throughout the current awards season. While that still remains the case now, with but a couple weeks left until this year’s Academy Awards ceremony takes place, the odds seem less in favor of La La Land securing a sweep of the Oscar categories in which it has been nominated, in the vein of such past blockbuster sensations as Titanic and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.

The acting categories at nearly every major film awards show this year have been dominated by such acclaimed dramas as Manchester by the Sea and Fences rather than La La Land, with fellow critical darling Moonlight having likewise made a good showing (and even secured the top honors at certain events) during its own sprint through this year’s awards show circuit.

That remained the case at the 2017 British Academy of Film and Television Arts awards ceremony: an event in which La La Land took home the top prize and several other awards, while other awards season heavyweights took home major BAFTA awards of their own.

La La Land took home five BAFTA awards in total, include wins for Best Film, Director and Actress (for Emma Stone), cementing its front-runner status for those categories at the Oscars show later this month. Meanwhile, Casey Affleck was recognized as Best Actor for his work on Manchester by the Sea and Viola Davis picked up yet another victory for Best Supporting Actress in Fences, further solidifying their own prospects of taking home an Academy Awards for their performances this year. That’s not to say there weren’t any surprises during this year’s BAFTA awards show, however.

Case in point, Laika’s stop-motion animated Kubo and the Two Strings won the prize for Best Animated Film over Disney’s smash-hit computer animated film Zootopia; itself, the longtime front-runner to win the Best Animated Feature Oscar this year. Zootopia is still arguably the favorite to be dubbed best animated feature over Kubo by the Academy, but an upset victory isn’t out of the question either. It will be interesting to see if both Kubo and the Best Documentary winner at the BAFTAs, the Ava DuVernay-helmed 13th, repeat their wins at the Oscars, given the strong competition that they will be facing off against.

Elsewhere, in the technical categories, Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi film Arrival and Jon Favreau’s live-action The Jungle Book (both of which are critical darlings) took home prizes of their own, including Best Visual Effects for the latter’s almost completely CGI landscapes and non-human characters. The Harry Potter prequel/spinoff Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them also took home a BAFTA for Best Production Design, as did Mel Gibson’s true story-based WWII drama/thriller, Hacksaw Ridge for editing. All four of those films are up for Oscars this month too, so it’s plausible (if not exactly likely) that all of these 2016 releases will be adding Academy Awards to their collection in the near future, too.

Flynn Changed Story To FBI, No Charges Expected

From: CNN
The FBI is not expected to pursue any charges against former national security adviser Michael Flynn regarding a phone call with Russia's ambassador, barring new information that changes what they know, law enforcement officials told CNN Thursday.

Flynn was fired by Donald Trump earlier this week after it was revealed that he withheld information from Vice President Mike Pence about his conversations with Sergey Kislyak, Russia's ambassador to the US. A US official confirmed to CNN last week that Flynn and Kislyak discussed sanctions, among other matters, during a December call.

Flynn initially told investigators sanctions were not discussed. But FBI agents challenged him, asking if he was certain that was his answer. He said he didn't remember.

The FBI interviewers believed Flynn was cooperative and provided truthful answers. Although Flynn didn't remember all of what he talked about, they don't believe he was intentionally misleading them, the officials say.

Further, then-acting Attorney General Sally Yates delayed notifying the White House until after Flynn was interviewed. At that point, FBI Director James Comey did not object to notifying the White House counsel.

There is still an ongoing, broader FBI review of Flynn and Russia-related dealings.
