Michael Sam Explodes In West Hollywood Bar Fight: “I Will Lay Your Ass On The Ground!”

The NFL draftee accused someone of giving the LGBT community "a bad name."
From: NewNowNext
Former NFL prospect Michael Sam was filmed having an explosive outburst on a West Hollywood sidewalk last night, threatening to punch another man he accused of giving “our community a bad fucking name.”

In video posted by TMZ Sports, a man in a white t-shirt is seen being held back by a friend, as he postures and motions aggressively at Sam. It’s unclear why the altercation started.

“Touch me, I will find that you tried to attack me and I will lay your ass on the ground,” Sam is heard yelling in the video, before calling his taunter a “trifling ass bitch.”

Before the altercation, Sam was reportedly hanging out at the West Hollywood bar Bootsy Bellows with a group of friends that included EJ Johnson.
Sam has been in and out of headlines since last November, when he told TMZ on another night out in West Hollywood that he was still a free agent trying to return to the NFL.

In 2014, Sam became the first openly gay man ever drafted by the NFL but was cut before the season began. He later signed with the Montreal Alouettes but left the league days later, citing his mental health.

Michael Phelps: ‘Everybody Pees in the Pool’

From: Towleroad
Michael Phelps, the most decorated Olympian and greatest swimmer of all time who won his 25th gold medal last night, did an interview with the Wall Street Journal earlier this week in which he talked about his career and some of the hardships he has had.

He also answered an all-important question about the “nitty gritty” of the sport, namely, reports that Ryan Lochte “had urinated in some of the pools.”

“I think everybody pees in the pool,” says Phelps. “I think it’s kind of a normal thing to do for swimmers. When we’re in the pool for two hours, we don’t really get out to pee, we just go whenever we are on the wall. Chlorine kills it, so it’s not bad.”

Lesbian Paralympian Injured In Bizarre Accident, Forced To Pull Out Of Rio Games

"I am going to show now that you can move forward from something that feels like the end of the world."
From: NewNowNext
After wowing as a member of Great Britain’s women’s national sitting volleyball team at the London 2012 Paralympic Games, Claire Harvey quickly became a fan favorite and national LGBT role model.

She continued to train and was poised to compete at the Rio 2016 games in shot put and javelin, but just days before she was scheduled to depart for Brazil, a freak mishap forced her to withdraw from the competition.

Havey’s Olympic dreams came to a speedy end while she was winding down after a practice.

“I broke my hand by a 6kg kettle bell falling off a shelf onto my hand whilst I was stretching,” she told Gay Star News. “I was laid on my stomach and my hands out in front of me. It fell and landed on the top of my hand.”

“My medical team…[was] fab,” she continued. “We immediately started ice, elevation and anti-inflammatories.”

Despite their quick response, however, hand injuries are difficult to treat because they “swell badly,” which makes it nearly impossible to “see what’s really wrong.”

“The team kept reviewing it…but by Wednesday it was obvious it wasn’t healing sufficiently for me to be able to train and be at my peak for Rio,” she concluded. “It was a real emotional roller coaster.”

Though she’s upset that she won’t be able to compete in Rio with the rest of the team, she’s confident that Great Britain will do extremely well at the 2016 games.

“The athletics squad of Team GB are really strong, I totally believe they will bring home many, many medals,” she remarked.

Moving forward, Harvey (pictured left with former Prime Minister David Cameron) plans to continue her work as a role model and advocate for the UK’s LGBT community.

“I hope that I can still inspire young LGBT people–in so much as I am going to show now that you can move forward from something that feels like the end of the world.”

Gay Olympic Rugby Player Receives Proposal From Girlfriend

“The Olympic Games can look like closure but for me it’s starting a new life with someone."
From: From: NewNowNext
A Brazilian women’s rugby sevens player has become the first athlete to receive a marriage proposal at the 2016 Rio Games after her girlfriend popped the question following a match.

Isadora Cerullo, 25, is a member of the Brazil squad that narrowly missed advancing to the knockout rounds after being bested by Australia.

Though her mood might’ve been down at the medals ceremony later that day, there’s no doubt it lifted once she saw her longtime girlfriend Marjorie Enya grab a microphone and enter the field.

Once Enya reached Cerullo, she made an emotional speech before asking her to marry her. Cerullo said yes and, in lieu of a ring, Enya tied a yellow ribbon around her finger.

The couple then embraced and the crowd erupted into cheers.

“As soon as I knew she was in the squad I thought I have to make this special,” Enya said. “I know rugby people are amazing and they would embrace it.”

“She is the love of my life,” Enya continued to BBC. “The Olympic Games can look like closure but for me it’s starting a new life with someone.”

“I wanted to show people that love wins.”

Cerullo, who holds dual citizenship in Brazil and the United States, is originally from North Carolina, but moved to São Paulo with Enya two years ago to begin training for the 2016 games.

She is one of over forty out athletes to compete at this year’s Olympics.

FIGHT! Aussies vs. Hungarians: Olympic Men's Water Polo Update

From: Speed o Rex
Rio 2016 Olympics Men's Water Polo play continues in the preliminary rounds.

Each team plays 5 games within their group in this round, which wraps up next Monday, August 15th.

In Group A, only Brazil has won both of their games, Japan has lost both of their games, the rest of the teams (Australia, Serbia, Greece, Hungary) having at least one game ending in a tie.

 A team garners 2 points for a win, 1 for a tie.

Denes Varga
In Group B, Croatia and surprising Italy have each won both of their games, USA and France have lost both, and Montenegro and Croatia have both lost and won 1 game.

The USA squad, Silver Medalists in the 2012 London games, is not measuring up to their hopes, despite the 5th Olympic appearance of team captain, Tony Azevedo, whose father played for the Brazil National Team before emigrating to California.

Perhaps the standout game for these Olympics, so far, was the tie game between perennial favorites Hungary, and perennial bridesmaids Australia.  Hungary was frequently world and Olympic champions until recent years.  Australia, whose climate is favorable to year round play, almost always makes an appearance in the limited field of Olympic Water Polo and at international championships, but never holds out until the finals.  Play between the two teams was vicious from the opening whistle, with the Hungarian "attitude"  at their opening goals clearly angering the Aussies.  Upon the last- second Australian goal to tie the game at the final whistle, an all-out, in the water,  fight erupted between the two teams.  Does anyone have some Jello?

Did Donald Trump Suggest His Supporters Shoot Hillary Clinton?

What. Is. Happening.
From: NewNowNext
Yesterday at a campaign rally in North Carolina, Donald Trump suggested his supporters assassinate Hillary Clinton if she’s elected President, to stop her from appointing liberal Supreme Court justices.

“Hillary wants to abolish, essentially abolish, the Second Amendment. By the way, and if she gets to pick her judges, nothing you can do, folks. Although the Second Amendment people, maybe there is, I don’t know. But I’ll tell you what, that will be a horrible day,” Trump told the crowd.

The internet blew up after Trump’s remarks but his campaign quickly defended Trump’s comments, claiming he was referring to the “power of unification,” not assassination:

Robby Mook, Clinton’s campaign manager also released a statement saying that Trump’s words are “dangerous”:

Only 90 long days until November 8.

U.S. Men’s Gymnastics Team Ready For Rio

From: Queety
The U.S. men’s gymnastics team had a disappointing showing in the 2012 Olympics and once again this year, finishing fifth despite being favored to win. They are hoping to find their way onto the podium in the individual events later this week and they are working hard to make that happen. Whatever happens in Rio, we are fully on their side.

Let’s take a closer look at this team of finely tuned and toned American athletes. Watch a video People magazine put together with a behind-the-scenes view of these guys in action.

The team – consisting of Sam Mikulak, Jake Dalton, Alex Naddour, Chris Brooks and Denell Leyva (replacing John Orozco, who sustained an injury) – has also been sharing their efforts on Instagram. It looks like they are taking time to have fun and be goofy as well, which is always nice to see.
