Favorite Birthday Boy #2 for July 11th

Justin Chambers
From: Favorite Hunks & Other Things

In my mind Grey's Anatomy's biggest asset, hottest guy and one of the shows best actors, Justin Chambers turns 44 today.

Justin Chambers (born July 11, 1970) is an American actor and former fashion model, best known for his role as Dr. Alex Karev in the ABC medical drama series Grey's Anatomy.

Chambers was born in Springfield, Ohio, the son of Pam and John Chambers. He has a fraternal twin brother named Jason, one older brother John Jr. (Chip), and two older sisters, Mia and Susan. He and his twin brother visited hospitals often as children due to frequent bouts with pneumonia. He attended Southeastern High School in South Charleston, Ohio, and later Springfield Clark JVS.

In 1993, he married Keisha, a former model agency booker. They have five children together: Isabella (b. December 1994), twins Maya and Kaila (b. June 1997), Eva (b. March 1999) and Jackson (b. January 2002). His wife and children have recently moved from their home in a suburb just outside of New York City to Los Angeles. In late January 2008, Chambers admitted that he suffered from a biological sleep disorder. The actor checked himself into Los Angeles' UCLA Medical Center to treat exhaustion due to the sleep disorder after a period of getting only two hours of sleep each week.

July 11th is Bowdler's Day

The self-righteous can rejoice today, feeling confident in bowdlerizing what they find offensive in works of art. In the words of one of the world's most famous and unofficial censors, Thomas Bowdler, "Many words and expressions occur which are of so indecent a nature as to render it highly desirable that they should be erased."

Thomas Bowdler, born July 11, 1754, was a doctor before he turned to extracting disease from text. One of Bowdler's main targets was Shakespeare, which he "cleansed" by removing what he designated as indecent words. The result was 10 volumes of "The Family Shakespeare." Bowdler even changed one of the most recognized lines from "Macbeth" from "Out, damned spot! out, I say!" to "Out, crimson spot!" What words would you remove from our everyday language if you could?

July 11th is Collector Car Appreciation Day

SEMA and its Automotive Restoration Market Organization and Hot Rod Industry Alliance have announced that the next Collector Car Appreciation Day will be celebrated July 11, 2014. The date will mark the fifth consecutive commemoration in what is now an annual event to raise awareness of the vital role automotive restoration and collection plays in American society.

The industry endeavors to preserve the nation’s automotive heritage while providing well-paying, high-skilled jobs nationwide. Collector Car Appreciation Day is a singular tribute to the collector-car industry and the millions of hobbyists it supports.

The U.S. Senate helped launch Collector Car Appreciation Day by passing resolutions each year at the request of the SEMA Action Network (SAN).Senator Jon Tester (D-MT) and Senator Richard Burr (R-NC) sponsored the previous resolutions.

Senators Tester and Burr have been strong advocates for the automotive hobby in Washington, D.C., and recognize the integral role collector cars have played in fostering our nation’s appreciation for the automobile’s unique place in history. This year, New Mexico; New York; Manitoba; Nova Scotia; Madera County, California; and Washington Parish, Louisiana, joined the U.S. Senate in proclaiming Collector Car Appreciation Day.

July 11th is Slurpee Day or 7-11's Birthday

Forget your birthday. Forget Christmas (Hanukah, Kwanzaa, etc.) Forget Arbor Day and Flag Day and Canada Day and Talk Like a Pirate Day. Today—July 11—is the greatest holiday of the year. Because today—July 11—is 7-Eleven's Free Slurpee Day (oh thank heaven!).
The Free Slurpee Day concept is fairly simple: If you go to 7-Eleven today, between 11AM and 7PM, you can get a free Slurpee. "It helps us reconnect with people who love the Slurpee," 7-Eleven's brand and marking rep explains

July 11th is Cheer Up The Lonely Day

Cheer Up the Lonely Day is an opportunity to make a lonely person happy. Any time you can make someone happy, you've done a good thing, and should be proud of yourself.

Lonely people have few friends and loved ones. They may have lost loved ones over the years. They may be elderly. They see people on an infrequent basis.

Spend some time today cheering up lonely people. It's easy to do.....just spend some time with them. When you visit, bring happy things to talk about. Keep the conversation upbeat, and lively. When you leave, give a big hug and let them know you enjoyed the stay. Sending cards or making a phone call is okay, only if they live too far away to visit. What a lonely person really needs, is face to face time with other people.

July 11th is National Rainier Cherries Day

In 1952 at Washington State University, Harold Fogle created a new cherry by cross-breeding the Bing and Van cherry varieties. This new cherry was named after Mount Rainier. Now, each year on July 11, it is National Rainier Cherry Day.

Rainier cherries are sweet cherries that have a thin skin and a thick creamy-yellow flesh. They are a temperamental crop that are very sensitive to temperature, wind and rain. Each season almost one-third of their crop is eaten by birds.

Due to their superior taste, Rainiers are considered a
premium cherry.

As part of it’s Tree-to-Table program, on July 11, in honor of National Rainier Cherry Day, the Northwest Cherry Growers have hand-picked one restaurant in each state that will take part in their program in which each of the 50 restaurants will be dishing up at least one signature menu item featuring fresh cherries from the Northwest highlighting delicious Rainier cherries.
