Miss America Chavez

Miss America Chavez has been out-and-proud pretty much from the get-go, and a fan-favorite since her time with the Young Avengers. In 2016, we saw the character— who can fly, create inter dimensional portals, and pretty much kick ass—take on greater prominence as the leader of The Ultimates, the premier Marvel team for tackling cosmic-level threats.

This year, Chavez gets her own comic book, titled simply America. A series with a queer Latina is a first for Marvel (well, any Latina, really) and comes from Gabby Rivera (Juliet Takes a Breath) and Joe Quinones (Howard the Duck).

36 Fetishes Every Gay Man Should Know

Scars

Scars are very sexy. They tie in to our culture's icon of the rugged warrior, the roughed-up cowboy, the solider wounded from battle. For some people, they are an extremely strong turn-on. These people have scar fetishes and many sometime choose to intentionally scar themselves in order to give themselves a feature they consider attractive. Not to belabor a distinction, but doing son would probaly be considered a body-mod kink. Scars as erotic stimuli are fetishes.

I fell for this incredible looker (and slight Bill Henson type) upon seeing him in the '90's flick Rear-Ended (1995), in which he co-starred with a pre-impossibly pumped up Rip Stone. A strapping brunet who's good with his mouth—what more can you ask for? Also great in To the Hilt (1997) from the same period. Disappeared off my radar, so I'm not sure what he's up to now.

Patrick Swayze’s “Road House” Sweatpants Go Up For Auction

"I used to fuck guys like you in prison."
From: NewNowNext
For aficionados of 1980s beefcake, Roadhouse is like The Godfather. Patrick Swayze was at his feathered best playing Dalton, a philosophical bouncer who tries to protect his town from a corrupt businessman.

The film is known for its ultra-violence and corny one liners like “pain don’t hurt.”

But it’s also known as being one of the most homoerotic action films of the decade: There’s tons of sweaty guys rubbing up against each other and, at one point, one of Swayze’s opponents barks, “I used to fuck guys like you in prison.”

And then there’s all those scenes of a shirtless Swayze kicking ass in his tight gray sweatpants.

Now those sweatpants are up for auction online, along with a shirt he reportedly wore in the film, and a copy of the movie itself.

Now we’re not suggesting you would want to do anything untoward with the pants that cradled Patrick Swayze’s perfect posterior. It’s strictly for sentimental value.

Need a Road House refresher? Watch the film’s 1989 trailer below.

New Mom Janet Jackson, Seeking Control, Splits with Billionaire Husband

From: EXTRA
"Extra" has confirmed Janet Jackson, who just gave birth to her first child at age 50 a few months ago, has split with billionaire husband Wissam Al Mana, 41, a Qatari businessman.

Page Six quotes a source saying Jackson felt her husband "had become too controlling during the pregnancy and she had already allowed him to dictate her appearance and even the way she performed at concerts."

During Jackson's last concert tour, fans and critics noted she wore only one, matronly outfit, and did not vamp as seductively onstage as she has in years past.

Al Mana's strict adherence to Islam may have conflicted with Jackson's desire for control — Page Six reports Janet's husband did not want a lavish wedding, was reclusive around her friends and family, and forbade her from being seen in public while nursing their new son, Eissa, all in accordance with Muslim tradition.

According to the report, Jackson made her decision to leave her third husband after her mom, Katherine, stayed with them in their London home for two months. Katherine has made claims she was abused by her nephew Trent, serious allegations that reportedly did not concern Al Mana.

“That’s when Janet made her decision that there was no turning back," the source revealed.

 THE OVERTONES

Chart toppers The Overtones get serious when discussing testicular cancer. Member Lachie Chapman, says: "It's so important to raise awareness and get blokes to check themselves. The penis is a definition of being a man, isn't it?"

The Overtones are a five-piece vocal harmony group. They were discovered by a Warner Bros. Records' talent scout while working as decorators in a shop near Oxford Street, singing during their tea break. Their debut album Good Ol' Fashioned Love entered the UK Albums Chart at #16 in November 2010. However, after the re-release of the album in March 2011, it propelled to #4. They have sold in excess of 500,000 copies of their first album.

The boys were originally in a band called DYYCE, which then reformed as Lexi Joe, which formed the basis of The Overtones. With four members originally - Mark Franks, Mike Crawshaw, Darren Everest and Timmy Matley - the band had been performing for several years. The four all shared an interest in the doo-wop genre of the 1950s mixed with R&B and modern pop music. Their voices bear strong resemblance to a 1980`s doo-wop boyband, 14 Karat Soul. After auditioning on The X Factor (UK) in 2009, as Lexi Joe, they were rejected from the final top 24. Later, they met Lachie Chapman, discovered similar tastes in music and reformed themselves as a five-piece band, under the name of The Overtones. Everest then had the idea of starting a painting and decorating company so that the five could practice together while working. It was while painting a shop near Oxford Street in London that the band were discovered by a talent scout, whilst singing The Longest Time. They have since signed a 5-album deal with Warner Bros. Records.

The debut album from The Overtones features a number of original tracks written by the band, including their first single "Gambling Man" as well as the title track "Good Ol' Fashioned Love" and "Carolyn". In 2010 they made a number of high-profile public appearances, supporting Peter Andre on tour, and performing at Stockport's Christmas lights switch-on and at the Abbey Park fireworks display in Leicester. They have also made a number of television appearances, including on This Morning.

On 13 March 2011, they were the house band for week 10 on the ITV show Dancing on Ice. On 1 June 2011 they were the house band for the third semi-final on the ITV show Britain's Got More Talent. In November 2011, they performed on The Saturday Night Show when presenter Brendan O'Connor had to hold up a curtain after a "terrible mishap occurred in the RTÉ studio". The incident, available on YouTube, was nominated for the "Brown Trousers Moment" award at the 2011 Erics.

On 29 September 2012 they appeared on an episode of Red or Black? being part of a round by using a handkerchief in their performance. On 9 December 2012 they appeared as special guest performers in the final episode of series 9 The Xtra Factor .

In mid 2013, they announced the release date of their third album, Saturday Night at the Movies. It is due to be released on 4 November 2013.

In early 2014, The Overtones went on a UK tour, stopping us in Belfast, Northern Ireland on 20 February. They toured with Sir Cliff Richard in Germany, May 2014.

In 2016, The Overtones toured with stage show That's Entertainment, a show featuring music from the 30's, 40's and 50's era. Later in 2016, The Overtones announced on their Facebook page that they would be touring from November to December, with their Christmas with The Overtones Tour. On the 21st November 2016, Matley announced via Twitter that he would not be joining the rest of the band on tour due to having been diagnosed with skin cancer in September 2016.

Jared Kushner’s baby brother Josh is totally cute and totally liberal

From: Queerty
When 31-year-old Josh Kushner learned his brother’s father-in-law had defeated Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential election, he was sitting in coach on a Virgin Airlines plane watching the results on his seat back television set.

“I was surprised,” he tells Forbes in a new profile. “But not as surprised as the other passengers sitting around me.”

Suddenly, he went into crisis mode.

Josh is the younger brother of Ivanka Trump’s husband, Jared Kushner, and a lifelong Democrat. He’s also the co-founder of Oscar Health, a multi-billion dollar start-up aimed at helping millennials acquire health insurance under the Affordable Care Act, which Donald Trump wants more than anything to abolish.

“It is no secret that liberal values have guided my life,” Josh, who has always considered Trump’s foray into politics nothing more than an ego-trip, continues, “and that I have supported political leaders that share similar values. Just as Jared is my family, I feel similarly responsible to everyone at my companies.”

But it wasn’t only his business interests Josh was concerned about. He says he was genuinely concerned for the country.

A recent profile in Hollywood Life mentions that Josh not only voted against Donald Trump in the election, but he’s a vocal supporter of equal rights for everyone.

For instance, he attended the Women’s March in Washington, D.C. on January 21; however, when someone snapped a photo of him among a sea of pink pssy hats and asked what he was doing there, Josh said he was simply “observing,” stopping short of criticizing his brother’s father-in-law. Still, actions speak louder than words, right?

Then just last week he posted this on Instagram:

Oh, and he’s been dating 24-year-old supermodel Karlie Kloss, a vocal feminist, for the past five years.

We think it’s safe to say that, unlike his brother’s father-in-law, Josh doesn’t think it’s OK to “grab women by the pussy.”

According to Josh, he and his older brother remain close, despite their political differences.

“Jared and I still speak every day,” he says, though Forbes mentions he won’t elaborate on what exactly they discuss or even what their dynamic is like.

And, yes, he’s visited him in Washington, D.C. a few times, too.

But according to folks who are close to Josh, he doesn’t share his older brother’s political aspirations, and he has made a point to distance himself from the Trump administration. At least, for now.

Indie Film ‘Landline’ Makes History After Getting Licensing Blessing from Chicago Cubs

From: Towleroad
Filmmaker Matthew Aaron spoke with Entertainment Weekly about the significance of securing licensing from a Major League Baseball franchise for his LGBTQ-themed film Landline, which became available on demand this week.

The comedic independent film tells the story of lifelong Cubs fan Ted, played by Aaron, who is reevaluating his life after professional disappointments, and decides to go “off the grid” with his husband from his cellphone and the internet as they save up for a new home.

In a welcome landmark development, the Chicago team—and reigning World Series champs—agreed to be featured, even allowing filming at their iconic Wrigley Field.

EW reports:

While the film’s message about genuine relationships amid an era ruled by cyber ties is relevant to the ever-evolving cultural landscape, it’s the LGBT-related themes that are making waves on the indie scene. According to Aaron, with the help of MLB’s Robin Jaffe, the film became the first film with queer characters to earn licensing support from a national sports league.
“In my research, there’s never been a film that stars LGBTQ actors made with the association of the MLB, the NBA, the NFL, or the NHL,” Aaron tells EW of the film, which also stars Parks and Recreation‘s Jim O’Heir and comedy staple Tom Arnold as Ted’s supportive uncle and father, respectively. “[But] it’s not a film about being gay. It’s about two husbands who are going through their marriage together — typical, normal problems that everyone has.”
“We never thought we were going to get [licensing for] the Cubs, and we never thought we’d get [to shoot at] Wrigley Field. We were just hoping that my character would be able to wear a Cubs jersey here and there for a couple thousand dollars,” Aaron explains. “Robin really wanted to support indie filmmaking, which they’ve never done before, and they wanted to support this film. To top it all off, they wanted to support a film with LGBTQ leads in it.”

Aaron, 33, also pointed out that he sought to cast LGBTQ actors in his film, such as trans actor Avi Roque, as well as several gay cast members.

Horrifying reports of gay men being rounded up and sent to concentration camps in Chechnya

From: Queerty
This is rather alarming.

According to multiple media outlets and human rights groups, Chechen leader and ally of Vladimir Putin, Ramzan Kadyrov, has just authorized a concentration camp for men “suspected of being homosexual.” It is the world’s first concentration camp for gay people since Hitler’s camps established in the 1930s.

According to European analyst and former State Department staffer Paul Goble, the concentration camp is located in former military headquarters in Argun. The reports come just one week after government officials in the region were accused of detaining and murdering gay men.

Chechnya (a.k.a. the Chechen Republic) is a federal subject of Russia located in the North Caucasus, in the southernmost part of Eastern Europe, about 60 miles from the Caspian Sea. It has a population of about 1.2 million people.

Police have been preying on gay men using social media, luring them onto dates and then arresting them. According to Novaya Gazeta, a newspaper known for its criticism of the Russian government, the men are being given an ultimatum: promise to leave the republic or be killed. The goal, the paper says, is “the complete cleansing of Chechnya from men of non-traditional sexual orientation.”

One former inmate claims police demanded he pay them bribes in exchange for his survival. Another says he and several others were tortured in an effort to force them to divulge the names of other gay men they knew.

“We are working to evacuate people from the camps,” Svetlana Zakharova, from the Russian LGBT Network, tells MailOnline. “Some have now left the region. Those who have escaped said they are detained in the same room and people are kept altogether, around 30 or 40. They are tortured with electric currents and heavily beaten, sometimes to death.”

The government, however, insists no such purge is underway. Why not? Because, it says, there simply are no homosexuals in Chechnya. ”

“You cannot arrest or repress people who just don’t exist in the republic,” a spokesperson told the state news agency Interfax.

But Ekaterina Sokirianskaia, Russia project director for the International Crisis Group, says otherwise.

“The story is very much developing,” Sokirianskaia tells MailOnline. “Victims are escaping.”
