Celebrating Today September 3rd

Happy Birthday Today To:
From: Favorite Hunks & Other Things
Singer Alexander Klaws turns 33 today.

I am not a fan of the 'current' Charlie Sheen, for some reason I find 'Two and a half Men' the lowest form of TV comedy, but I did like Sheen in his early film roles, my favorite being 'Lucas'. Loved that flick! Charlie turns 51 today.

Actor Chris Fountain turns 29 today

Model Greg Uttsada Panichkul turns 43 today.

Actor Holt McCallany turns 53 today.

Actor Nick Wechsler, whom I first enjoyed on 'Roswell' turns 38 today.

Pole Vaulter Tim Lobinger turns 44 today.

September 3rd is National Writing Date Day

Writers are disciplined individuals.  Quit laughing!  Seriously…  it’s really bugging me – stop!

There are only so many hours in the day…  plus, there are so many distractions that can derail your train of thought…  everything from a noisy dishwasher to the television set in the room next to your writing space.  It can be maddening when you’re trying to write.

Natalie Marie Collins makes a wonderful suggestion…  LEAVE.  Go to a writing safe place, whether it is a favorite coffee shop or restaurant.  Wherever you decide to go, make it a quiet place where you won’t be disturbed while you research and write.

September 3rd is National Tailgating Day

We know it’s autumn by the colors and scents of the season. Most notably, those colors are related to our favorite football teams and the smells of grilling burgers and brats at our tailgate parties. That’s why we recognize the first Saturday in September as National Tailgating Day!

Tailgating is the custom of gathering outside the stadium before the game with fans of the same team for food, beverages and socializing. Gatherings often take place at the tailgate of a pickup truck or the trunk of a car, but neither are required. Grilling and beer are staples of the tailgate party, though chili competitions and recipe challenges are not out of the question. Come hungry!

The original tailgate is unknown. Many teams take pride in claiming this title, as they should. Some writers have suggested the many observers in attendance at the Battle of Bull Run at the beginning of the Civil War in 1861 with their picnic baskets and bottles of claret to be the very first tailgaters of all time. Perhaps.

Tailgating does center around the sport of football. While football has its roots in the game of rugby, it is generally accepted that the first football game in United States history was on November 6, 1869, between Rutgers and Princeton Universities. Fans arrived early to enjoy each others company and some food.

Much like building a community, tailgating hearkens back to a time when pioneering villages would come together to raise the framework of a building. Often followed by a large meal and perhaps a sporting competition of sorts, these harvest traditions were looked forward to year after year. Those who tailgate come back every year,

Those who tailgate come back every year, weekend after weekend. Couples have met, families have grown, bonds have been forged, all through the community of tailgating.

Just Because: Gossip Girl

September 3, 2008
From: Favorite Hunks & Other Things
As those who checked out my long post the other day on Gossip Girl are aware, I love the show. I did enjoy the season 2 premier, although was a bit disappointed. Some of the magic from season 1 seemed to have vanished. Hopefully this was just because they spent so much time establishing relationships again for new viewers. The edge some of the characters had all but disappeared.

Of course I loved Chace in his boxers, although this man is so beautiful, with or without his show he is magic. The scene of him jumping out of the bedroom window as so Desperate Housewives season 1, and not as risky as done by Jesse Metcalf. Seemed a bit forced to through in this scene. One thing GG was not last season was forced.

September 3rd is Penny Press Day

Penny Press was the term used to describe the revolutionary business tactic of producing newspapers which sold for one cent. The Penny Press is generally considered to have started September 3,1833, when Benjamin Day founded The Sun, a New York City newspaper.

Day, who had been working in the printing business, started a newspaper as a way to salvage his business after setbacks which began during a local financial panic caused by the cholera epidemic of 1832. His idea of selling a newspaper for a penny seemed radical at a time when most newspapers sold for six cents.

He reasoned that many working class people were literate, but were not newspaper customers simply because no one had published a newspaper targeted to them. By launching The Sun, Day was taking a gamble. But it proved successful.

Besides making the newspaper very affordable, Day instituted another innovation, the newsboy. By hiring boys to hawk copies on street corners, The Sun was both affordable and readily available.
