Classic Television - Prime Time

Sarge
Original channel
NBC
Original run
September 21, 1971 – January 11, 1972
Starring
George Kennedy

Sarge is an American crime drama television series starring George Kennedy. The series aired for one season on NBC from September 1971 to January 1972.
Kennedy stars as Samuel Patrick Cavanaugh, a San Diego police detective sergeant who decides to retire and enter the priesthood after his wife is murdered. Sarge had initially studied for the priesthood prior to his police career, but his seminary studies were interrupted by military service during World War II.

The series, which ran in 1971, was preceded by a pilot titled Sarge: The Badge or the Cross, which set the premise for the subsequent series. One week before the show's fall premiere, Cavanaugh travelled to San Francisco because of the death of a friend and fellow priest. His investigation caused him to cross paths with the characters from Ironside in a two-hour special that consolidated the two series' consecutive time slots. This has been subsequently seen as a TV-movie, The Priest Killer.

The series was set in San Diego and the pilot movie was filmed primarily on location. However, when the series went into production, episodes were filmed in Los Angeles. The parish church used was St. Peter's Italian Catholic Church on North Broadway in Chinatown.

George Kennedy's character was originally Sarge Swanson in the pilot movie. Starting with the Ironside crossover episode, and for the rest of the series, his last name was changed from Swanson to Cavanaugh. Supporting actor Ramon Bieri played Sarge's police contact. In the pilot, his name was Chief Dewey, but was changed to Lt. Barney Verick, chief of detectives, for the series. Sallie Shockley and Harold Sakata reprise their roles from the pilot movie for the series. Dana Elcar also appeared in the pilot, as well as the series, as Father Frank Dinsmore.

I Want to Share a Very Personal Family Moment #Valentines

From: Wicked Gay
This may be inappropriate as this is no longer my personal blog but the amazing thing about the team at OLB is that they gave me full creative encouragement until we find the writer or writers who will take over this blog, and for that I truly thank them.

As you know, I don't share too many personal details because I am a relatively private person by nature. That being said, my niece who celebrates her birthday each year on Valentine's Day turned 20 today. The following are Facebook messages from my sister to her daughter (my niece) and then a return Facebook message back from my niece to her mom (my sister.)

Dearest Kourtney, 20 years ago today you entered into the world. You were the easiest baby to care for. From the beginning you slept through the night. You barely ever fussed. As a toddler you had such a vivid imagination. I just loved watching you play with your dolls. Your imagination stayed with you as you grew into your elementary years. You started writing stories that blew us away. I was so proud to say the least. Then the middle school years came and you started breaking away being your own individual. That saddened me and made me happy all at the same time. You were growing up and there was nothing I could do but hope what I taught you stuck. As you moved on into high school you were a "know it all". We just didn't see eye to eye. Thank God we went through all that. It made us where we are now. I love you kiddo!! You mean the world to me!! Whether you make the wrong or right decision, I am always here for you. Happy 20th Birthday Kourtney!! Happy Valentine's Day!! Love Mom

Mom, 20 years ago today you gave birth to the rambunctious, sassy, and bubbly woman I have grown up to be today. Without you I honestly would not be where I am at, you've stood by my side through the good and the ugly and have not once ceased to believe in me. You taught me the morals, manners, and lessons I now live by today. You taught me growing up that it's okay to be different, it's okay to stand out, and it's okay to be yourself. Some of the most important values and morals I have would not be a part of me if I didn't have an amazing mother like you to teach me and guide me through life. I love you so much momma, and I hope you have a wonderful day. Happy Valentine's Day, and thank you for being my number one fan. Love and miss you bunches! ♡♡♡♡

I must admit, I have never regretted that Marc and I made a conscious decision not to have children, but reading a moment like this makes me wonder if we made the right choice.

That being said, I just reached out to my sister and to my niece to let them know how proud I am that we are family!

How The Supreme Court Shake-Up Will Impact The Future Of LGBT Rights

From: Wicked Gay
"Currently, a majority of states and the federal government lack explicit protections from discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. Over the last several years, however, many lower courts and several executive agencies have begun to revisit whether sex discrimination protections, passed by Congress in the 1960s and 70s, include discrimination based on a person’s sexual orientation or gender identity.

LGBT litigator groups believe — and the Equal Opportunity Employment Commissionand agrowing number of courts have ruled — that because gender is at the core of anti-LGBT discrimination, such discrimination falls within existing sex protections. If the Supreme Court sided with those arguments, the ramifications would be huge: discrimination against LGBT people would be clearly and undeniably illegal in vital areas of life, from workplaces to schools.

The question at the core of the discrimination cases differs from the one answered in the Court’s majority opinion in Obergefell, meaning that the same coalition of five justices, particularly the inclusion of Justice Anthony Kennedy, may not exist in the context of nondiscrimination protections." Everyone At The Grammys Was Thirsty For Country Singer Sam Hunt—And So Are We!

He didn't take home any Grammys, but he sure did win a ton of new fans.
From: NewNowNext
The one thing everyone was in agreement about at last night’s Grammys was that Sam Hunt looked fine AF. The “Honey I’m Good” singer had everyone’s eyes glued to the television from the moment he hit the red carpet in a pink Dolce & Gabbana suit.

“This is my first Grammy experience, so I’m soaking it in” he told Billboard.

While Hunt was soaking in the glitz and glamour, everyone else was soaking in their unapologetic thirst for him.

But just when you thought he couldn’t get any hotter, he went for a more casual look when it came time for his duet with Carrie Underwood.

A plain white tee has never looked so good—and those arms are everything. But Sam Hunt has always been hot, even if we haven’t been paying attention.

Ah, but the right-wingers are so handsome sometimes, aren't they? Such was the case with Taylor, though anyone might develop a thick skin after being married to Barbara Stanwyck for more than a decade. He had one of the most perfect faces in the movies and could act his way out of a paper bag—maybe even plastic.
It would be nice to be so gorgeous that it gets
in the way of being taken seriously

7 Gay Presidential Rumors You Won’t Believe (But Maybe Should)

From: NEWNOWNEXT
 2
James Buchanan: Lifelong Bachelor
The 15th president never married, and lived for more than a decade with his best friend, William Rufus King. Contemporaries called them “the Siamese twins,” and teased that King—nicknamed “Aunt Fancy”— was the president’s “better half” and “wife.”

When King, reportedly something of a fop, was appointed ambassador to France, Buchanan wrote a friend:

“I am now solitary and alone, having no companion in the house with me. I have gone a wooing to several gentlemen, but have not succeeded with any one of them.”

He added that he didn’t think it was good for him to be alone and “I should not be astonished to find myself married to some old maid who can nurse me when I am sick … and not expect from me any very ardent or romantic affection.”

Buchanan actually made King his vice president (the only bachelor VP in American history), but King died of tuberculosis six weeks after being sworn in.

“I’m sure that Buchanan was gay,” says historian James W. Loewen. “There is clear evidence that he was gay. And since I haven’t seen any evidence that he was heterosexual, I don’t believe he was bisexual.”

Patrick Duffy
From: Favorite Hunks & Other Things

Patrick Duffy always got my heart racing, from his days swimming through the ocean in his yellow suit in Man From Atlantis through his days as Bobby Ewing on Dallas. Patrick was the 'good' brother on Dallas and was often shirtless. Patrick has classic good looks and a great body which he kept in great shape, glorious chest hair and all.

Duffy's only nude scene in his first flick Vamping.
