Toronto Blue Jays’ Player Calls Braves Pitcher “Faggot” After Striking Out

"This is not who I am and will use this as an opportunity to better myself."
From: NewNowNext
Toronto Blue Jays center fielder Kevin Pillar was suspended from two games Thursday after calling an Atlanta Braves pitcher a faggot.

The Canadian team suspended Pillar after he apologized, saying he was “completely and utterly embarrassed” by his use of the slur during his team’s game against the Braves Wednesday night.

Pillar yelled the offensive term toward pitcher Jason Motte after he thought the Braves player had quick-pitched him to get a strikeout. Video of the event shows Pillar screaming at the mound and Motte raising his arms in confusion.

The 28-year-old fielder later apologized for his remarks to a group of reporters gathered at SunTrust Park.

“I regret saying it,” he said. “I’m going to use myself as an example of how there are words out there you can’t use. It’s not a word I use ever.”

He concluded: “It’s something that just came out.”

Blue Jays General Manager Ross Atkins flew down to Atlanta to apologize on behalf of the team and formerly announce Pillar’s suspension, a move supported by Major League Baseball and Commissioner Rob Manfred.

In a statement, the team condemned Pillar’s actions, writing, “The Toronto Blue Jays are extremely disappointed by the comments made by Kevin Pillar following his at-bat during the 7th inning of last night’s game.”

“We would like to extend our own apologies to all fans, Major League Baseball and especially the LGBTQ community.”

On Thursday, Pillar called Motte to apologize and issued a statement saying that he also wanted to apologize to the Braves organization, their fans and, most importantly, to the LGBTQ community for the “lack of respect” he displayed during the game.

“[With my actions], I helped extend the use of a word that has no place in baseball, in sports or anywhere in society today,” he wrote. “This is not who I am and will use this as an opportunity to better myself.”

In 2012, the Blue Jays gave shortstop Yunel Escobar a three-game suspension after he played an entire game with an anti-LGBT slur written in Spanish on his under-eye black stickers.

2 minor league baseball teams to hold their first Pride Nights

Great Lakes Loons and York Revolution schedule the events
From: OutSports
Two minor league baseball teams are holding their first LGBT Pride Nights this season, a sign that the promotional events are being held more frequently in the lower divisions of the sport.

The Great Lakes Loons in Midland, Michigan, will hold its event May 31 when they play the West Michigan Nightcaps. The event is being co-sponsored by GLAD, the LGBT employees group of Dow Chemical. The Loons, a Los Angeles Dodgers affiliate in the Midwest League, play at Dow Diamond.

"It's another opportunity for the Loons to connect with our fans and have our ballpark act as a community gathering place," said Tiffany Wardynski, Loons vice president of baseball operations.

In Pennsylvania, the York Revolution will have its LGBTQ Pride Night June 14 against the New Britain Bees. The Revolution play in the independent Atlantic League of Professional Baseball.

Former MLB pitcher Joe Valentine will headline a ceremony before the Revs honor LGBTQ leaders and LGBTQ members of the armed forces.
“I have been a lifelong ambassador to the LGBT community, having been raised since birth by lesbians,” Valentine, an ambassador for the LGBTQ ally nonprofit Athlete Ally, said in a news release. “The world needs more understanding and patience and less hate and ignorance, and I hope I can help with spreading the word.”

Pride Nights have become a staple of many Major League Baseball teams and it good to see more and more minor league teams do the same. During Pride Month, 11 MLB teams will host LGBT-themed events.

Special Prosecutor For Trump

From: Boy Culture
Rod Rosenstein, the acting FBI director, has appointed former FBI director, Robert Mueller, as special prosecutor to oversee the Trump/Russia probe.

Just for fun, House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-California) said — on tape, way back in 2016, before Trump/Russia was a thing — he thought that “Putin pays Trump.”

He, uh, now says he was just joshin'.

Trump whined at Wednesday's U.S. Coast Guard commencement ceremony that no politician has been more badly mistreated than he. (Harvey Milk might beg to differ.)

Would be funny if the investigation concluded the Russian ties were murky, but that Trump definitely obstructed justice.

Notre Dame students plan walkout during Mike Pence speech

From: CNN
When Vice President Mike Pence delivers the commencement speech at Notre Dame today, he'll likely speak to fewer people than he expected.

Some students at the Catholic university plan to walk out of the speech as part of a protest against Pence and his policies, which they say target marginalized people on the basis of their religion, skin color or sexual orientation, according to the student activist group We Stand For.

Luis Miranda, a co-organizer of the walkout, said Pence, as Indiana governor and as vice president, targeted vulnerable people with his policies. Catholic values promote standing up for the poor and marginalized, so he plans to stand up on Sunday, literally.

Miranda said some of his family members are undocumented immigrants and have felt under siege by the Trump administration's crackdown on immigration.

"They are going to be in the audience in one of the most important moments of my life with someone targeting them for who they are," he said.

The plan, according to a Facebook event, is to stand up when Pence begins speaking, walk toward the exit quietly, and, of course, live tweet the protest under the #WalkoutND hashtag.

As of Thursday afternoon, about 75 people had signed up to participate in the walkout.

"This is not just about the numbers, but about standing up for truth," Miranda said. "We feel that there is power in truth and hopefully there will be power in numbers that come stand up with us."

The university is not particularly worried about the protest.

Paul Browne, a spokesperson for Notre Dame, said walkout organizers reached out to police and administrators ahead of time to plan the quiet proceedings.

"We're not concerned," Browne said. "We think they will be respectful in the way they express their differences with the administration."

Browne said officials were more concerned with the potential for thunderstorms on Sunday, which could force them to move the commencement from the spacious outdoor football stadium to a smaller arena.

A number of prominent Republicans have faced student opposition at commencement speeches this graduation season. Last week, Education Secretary Betsy DeVos faced raucous booing at a speech at historically black Bethune-Cookman University.

Pence will become the first vice president to deliver a commencement speech at Notre Dame when he receives an honorary degree today, according to the university.

Six presidents from both sides of the aisle have given commencement speeches at Notre Dame, including Barack Obama in 2009 and George W. Bush in 2001.

"It is fitting that in the 175th year of our founding on Indiana soil that Notre Dame recognize a native son who served our state and now the nation with quiet earnestness, moral conviction and a dedication to the common good characteristic of true statesmen," Notre Dame President Rev. John I. Jenkins said in a statement.

Pence received his bachelor's degree from Indiana's Hanover College and attended Indiana University School of Law.

Dozens of Notre Dame Students Walk Out of VP Mike Pence Commencement Speech
From: NBC News
Dozens of students at the University of Notre Dame walked out of their commencement ceremony today when Vice President Mike Pence took the stage — in protest of the administration and policies he represents.

Some members of the larger crowd cheered the walk-outs on, while others booed the students who marched out of gates 27 and 28 of Notre Dame Stadium during the school's 172nd commencement. The walk-out came before the students received their degrees, and they were not allowed back in, officials said.

The move was not totally unexpected, since the student organization WeStaNDFor had shared their plans ahead of time. They believe that the politics Pence, the former Indiana governor who was raised Catholic, represented contradicted the Catholic social virtues Notre Dame extols.

"He has supported policies that have targeted the weakest and most vulnerable among us," said graduate student Luis Miranda, a member of the group, told NBC affiliate WNDU before the protest. "These are my classmates; these are my friends; these are our family members as well. We're standing up for them. We're standing up for their dignity."

South Bend Equality, a group participating in the event, expanded further on the specific issues that they were protesting.

"Our members lived in South Bend when Mike Pence was governor," the group said in a statement. "We know all too well how his policies endangered or caused direct harm to public education, health care, women's rights, the environment, LGBTQ individuals, immigrants and refugees, reproductive rights, local infrastructure, the economy of our state, and more."

Instructions were quite simple: "Sit with a friend in your college," read an invitation titled "Taking Back Our Commencement."

"Stand up and walk out once Mike Pence starts to speak," it directed. "Respectfully and quietly exit the stadium."

Only 50 were expected to take part in the silent gesture, but reports estimated that more than 100 students headed for the exit when Pence, who earned an honorary degree from Notre Dame, walked toward the podium.

There were also demonstrators unaffiliated with the graduation ceremony who gathered near the Notre Dame campus to protest the vice president's presence.

Participants deemed it a successful demonstration.

Pence's remarks began as students walked out, but he did not address the elephant leaving the room — instead addressing religious liberty, President Donald Trump's Sunday morning speech in Saudi Arabia and encouraging leadership in broad strokes terms.

"University of Notre Dame Class of 2017, this is your day," Pence said in closing. "So go, Irish — the future is yours."

“Whatcha Packin'”: Michelle Visage Sits Down With This Week’s Eliminated Queen

“I don’t think that needed to happen."
From: NewNowNext
Read our lips: We’ll miss you, girl.

In the latest episode of Whatcha Packin’, club kid-at-heart Michelle Visage talks to this week’s chopped RuPaul’s Drag Race contestant, Valentina, about his season 9 journey—and what was going through his head during that disastrous final lip sync.

The 25-year-old L.A. queen also discusses the heavy Latina influence on his floral-forward looks. “My references tend to be old Mexican cinema or telenovelas,” he explains. “I really want to represent the beauty and the elegance that is and that does come from Latin America.”

If Valentina could go back, what would he do differently? “I had such a great experience and I wouldn’t change a thing,” he says. “I think it played out the way it needed to.”

Including his half-assed, half-masked lip sync? “I don’t think that needed to happen,” Visage says. Escandalo!

“Proud” Man with Small Penis Talks Openly on ‘This Morning’

From: Cocktails and Cocktalk
“Does size matter?” is a question as old as Michelle Visage. And as many believe the answer is that it does, one man Ant Smith, talks openly about the taboo of not being well-endowed on British daytime TV. I mean, if you’re gonna talk about your bits with anyone, why not Ruth, Eamon, a camera crew and the whole nation?

Ant discusses the low self-esteem he experienced from his ‘shortcomings’. He rejects the term “micro-penis” as he believes it’s a very medical-specific term and actually doesn’t do much good “labelling” people. Even Ant is like, ‘OK my dick is small, but you don’t need a microscope to see it’.

When asked by Eamonn why Ant wanted to reveal this about himself, Ant replied: “anxiety grows in the dark.” And apparently anxiety is the only thing growing in the dark. SORRY! But that was too easy.

On a serious note, we think it’s great that Smith can be so open about something that most men wouldn’t even talk about with their closest friends. Especially in today’s shallow society.

Part of the segment involved comparing his size to that of the average male. Ant’s is on the left, which is just 1-inch on a floppy. But when it comes to being erect, his dick quadruples in size – which for most men would be a dream – but still leaves Ant with 4 inches, 1.16″ less than the average male erection – according to the show’s stats.

Ant added that he uses more than just his dick to please his wife. Yes, WIFE. So if y’all laughing and single AF – he gotta be doing something right! Ant received a number of supportive tweets post/during-show.

“Pariah” Director Dee Rees Is Making A Horror Film About Black Lesbians With “Get Out” Producer Jason Blum

More #woke horror movies are on the way
From: NewNowNext
Two powerhouse filmmakers are joining forces to give us a lesbian horror film tackling race and sexuality in uncharted ways.

Director-screenwriter Dee Rees is known for deftly chronicling the black queer experience in 2011’s Pariah and HBO’s Bessie Smith biopic, Bessie. Jason Blum, meanwhile, is the producer behind this year’s breakaway horror-hit, Get Out.

The two met up at a recent Sundance Institute event in L.A., and when Rees said she had an idea for her own low-budget scary movie, about a gay couple in rural America, Blum was all ears.

“You’ve got me and my wife, two black lesbians, and when we first moved in [to our house], we fought every day over all these little things: ‘Why is this over there? Did you move that?’” she told Blum, according to
The New York Times Magazine. “Maybe it was a ghost. Or maybe it was some other force—like us not wanting to be there or fitting in.”

Blum admitted he was intimidated to work with Rees, whose work he admired, but was ready to sign on.

“It almost makes me nervous, The idea of working with you,” he exclaimed. “But anything you want to do, I’m in. I’m in, I’m in, I’m in.”

It may take a while for Rees’ lesbian-couple-in-jeopardy fright fest to see the light of day, but we’ll be lined up on opening day.

“Mamma Mia!” Movie Sequel Confirmed—But Why?

"Money, Money, Money."
From: NewNowNext
Mamma doesn’t always know best.

Universal Pictures has announced that Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again!, a musical film sequel to the 2008 blockbuster Mamma Mia!, will be released July 20, 2018—10 years after the first film premiered, Deadline reports.

The original cast, which was led by Meryl Streep, is expected to return with some new additions. Colin Firth played a gay character alongside Amanda Seyfried, Pierce Brosnan, Stellan Skarsgård, Julie Walters, Christine Baranski, and Dominic Cooper.

The sequel will be written and directed by The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel screenwriter Ol Parker, who also wrote and directed the lesbian romantic comedy Imagine Me & You.

With ABBA members Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus back on board as executive producers, the new movie musical will feature songs not heard in the first film, plus old favorites to delight any dancing queen.

How could such a critically derided movie get a sequel? Considering that the first film grossed $144.1M domestically and $609.8 million worldwide, it’s actually hard to believe it took an entire decade.

My, my, how can we resist you?

“I’m dating WeHo’s most popular glory hole,” and more pearls from “What Happens at the Abbey”

From: Queerty
The cable network E! continues its barrage of reality television, this time with their skin-driven What Happens at the Abbey. Set at the West Hollywood landmark, the series centers on proprietor David Cooley and his battalion of vapid, pretty and often surgically enhanced staffers.

In each episode, the crew gets naked, has sex, fights and pours drinks for a crowd that mixes celebrities, wannabes, socialites, tourists and locals willing to pay for overpriced, if tasty, drinks. The series, however, revolves around the personal drama and rivalries of these staffers, framed against the backdrop of loud music and inebriation. Also, despite ostensibly being about the iconic West Hollywood gay bar, the show tends to focus more on the straight or questioning characters.

Hey, what do you expect from reality television?

“Bachelorette” Contestant Turns Out To Be Transphobic Ass

Bryce says his biggest fear is that “the chick is actually a dude.”
From: NewNowNext
The bios for the contestants of the upcoming 13th season of The Bachelorette were released this Wednesday and surprise, surprise, one of the guys has already made a transphobic remark.

In their bios, the men get a chance to answer a few softball questions and talk about their professions. While a majority of the dudes tend to go a little goofy (“Tickle Monster” was a listed job for one contestant), 30-year-old firefighter Bryce decided to go straight up offensive.

When asked what his biggest date fear is, he replied: “The chick is actually a dude.”

Social media users quickly let him have it for the problematic statement, which supports the ignorant belief that trans people are “betraying” others with their identities when in actuality, they’re just living their truth.

And actor, writer and producer Jen Richards said it best: “Dear Bryce, on behalf of trans women I can assure you – none of us want to date your bland preppy 1980’s teen movie villain rhombus ass.”

Though some might argue that what Bryce said was simply a joke, the issue is that it represents a deep-seated prejudice toward trans people, which manifests not only in discrimination in schools and the workplace, but also in violent and often fatal hate crimes.

And this is hardly the first time a Bachelorette contestant has taken a swing at the LGBT community. Last summer, Chad Johnson attempted to out fellow contender Robby Hayes in an act of revenge.

‘Sologamy’ is a growing trend for singles who want to marry themselves

From: Queerty
Opponents of same-sex marriage warned us that if gay people were ever allowed to marry, it would open the floodgates and pretty soon people would start marrying everything from their pets to their family members to inanimate objects.

Well, it looks like that self-fulfilling prophecy is finally coming true.

Sologamy is growing trend among people who are happy being single but who also yearn to be married, so they wed themselves.

37-year-old Erika Anderson considers herself a “sologamist.” She says sologamy is all about saying “yes” to oneself and not giving into the pressure society places on single people to pair up.

“It means that we are enough,” she tells WUSA-9 news, “even if we are not partnered with someone else.”

Last year, Anderson said was so sick of people always asking why she was still single. So she planned a wedding, spent a ton of money, invited all of her friends and family, and got married… to herself.

Afterwards, she took herself on a solo honeymoon to Mexico.

Believe it or not, there’s actually an industry for this sort of thing. “Marry Yourself” in Canada offers consulting and wedding photography for sologamists. There’s also IMarriedMe.com, which describes itself as “a self-wedding is a symbolic ceremony–about reconnecting and staying connected with you. Wear the ring to remind you every day to LOVE YOURSELF.”

IMarriedMe.com offers sologamy ceremony kits, including “self-wedding bands,” daily affirmation cards, and vows, as well as an “I Married Me Self-Wedding In-A-Box” kit that retails for $230.

The site was created by jewelry designer Jeffrey Levin, who tells WUSA-9, that he believe sologamy has “increased over the years, and it’s something that’s becoming more understood and more accepted.”

But not everyone agrees.

Amanda Prestigiacomo at The Daily Wire calls it “the saddest trend you’ve ever heard of” and Michael Arceneaux at The Root describes it as “some white nonsense, and y’all’s black selves better not duplicate their silliness.”

“You don’t need to marry yourself to prove you’re OK with being single,” Arceneaux writes. “Just masturbate and ignore the world. Tell people to mind their damn business. … There—I saved you on your future fake divorce settlement. You’re welcome.”

What do you think about the idea of sologamy and self-marriage? Sound off in the comments below…

‘Dynasty’ reboot promises lots of catfights, hair-pulling, and very steamy gay sex

From: Queerty
In case you haven’t heard, the ’80s soap hit Dynasty is getting a CW reboot a la 90210 and Melrose Place style.

In the new Dynasty, viewers will be reunited with the Carringtons and the Colbys as they feud over control of the family fortune, their children, ancient grudges, love triangles, revenge plots, sex scandals, and all those things that keep the uber-wealthy up at night.

The reboot will center around Fallon Carrington (played by Elizabeth Gillies), the daughter of handsome billionaire Blake Carrington, and her soon-to-be evil stepmother, Cristal (Nathalie Kelley), a Hispanic outsider marrying into America’s most powerful class.

The show promises no shortage of over-the-top catfights, high stakes drama, sass, hair-pulling, bitch slaps, and, oh yeah, hot and sweaty gay sex.

That’s right, folks. Fans of the original Dynasty will be pleased to learn that Fallon’s gay brother, Steven, is also back for the reboot. In fact, the trailer shows him hooking up with none other than Sammy Jo, who is returning as a male character this time around.

The only thing that could possibly make this any better is if Joan Collins makes a cameo.

Check out the trailer below.
