Classic Television - Prime Time

The New CBS Tuesday Night Movies
Original Channel
CBS
Original Run
1971- 1974
The New CBS Tuesday Night Movies (known as The New CBS Friday Night Movies in its first season) was a weekly 90 minute television movie series seen on CBS from 1971 to 1974. During its first two seasons, the program was similar to ABC's Movie of the Week, in which it presented a new television movie once a week. In the fall of 1972, the series moved from Friday nights to Tuesdays, with its Friday night slot given back to traditional theatrical films under The CBS Friday Night Movies banner. (The New CBS Friday Night Movies replaced The CBS Friday Night Movies during its first season.)

During the 1973-1974 television season, CBS reinvented The New CBS Tuesday Night Movies by using an approach similar to the NBC Mystery Movie, with two rotating series (both produced by MGM Television) and a television movie seen on alternating weeks:

Shaft, a series television version of the 1970s blaxploitation film franchise (itself based on Ernest Tidyman's 1970 novel of the same name), starring Richard Roundtree, reprising the role of John Shaft.

Hawkins, starred James Stewart as Billy Jim Hawkins, a rural man who investigated the cases he was involved in, not unlike Stewart's role in the 1959 film Anatomy of a Murder.

Every third week was a television movie.

The New CBS Tuesday Night Movies was cancelled after the 1973-1974 television season. Television films seen on CBS would be incorporated into its Thursday and Friday night movie programs, beginning with the 1974-1975 season.

Big Brother: Things 'might' be looking up...

July 8, 2008
I LOVED LOVED LOVED Big Brother, seasons 1-3 (Amy cracked me up!) but have not really enjoyed a season much since (although I did enjoy season 5, and all things Janelle!). I watched about 10 minutes of this past winters season, just enough to tell me I could not stomach those people. The producers of the show baffle me as I have to give them credit for hooking me for several seasons, but at the same time, it seems almost no one really enjoys the little twists, which rarely work out very well. They spend so much time trying to attract new viewers, they seem to screw over the shows loyal fans. But...Looking at the cast posted this morning at CBS, I did seem a few good looking guys. Of course there will be some idiots, it is BB, but with Jesse (left) entering the house as well as a few other cuties I will give another shot!

Favorite Birthday Boy for July 8th Michael Weatherly

 Michael Weatherly
From: Favorite Hunks & Other Things
I find actor Michael Weatherly absolutely adorable! Michael turns 46 today.

Michael Manning Weatherly, Jr. (born July 8, 1968) is an American actor and director, best known for his roles as Special Agent Anthony DiNozzo on the television series NCIS, and Logan Cale on the television series Dark Angel.

Michael Weatherly was born in New York City on July 8, 1968, and raised in Fairfield, Connecticut, by parents Patricia O'Hara and Michael Manning Weatherly, Sr. Weatherly is of Irish descent.

Michael attended Fairfield Country Day for Elementary and middle school. Weatherly graduated from Brooks School in North Andover, Massachusetts, in 1986. Subsequently, he spent some time at American University but he left college to pursue acting.

Weatherly also had a great passion for music, and played in a band while pursuing his acting career. During this time he, like many young actors, appeared in various small works. One of his is a video shot for a Karaoke CD: A Taste Of Honey's version of "Sukiyaki". Despite not continuing with his band, he contributed the song Bitter and Blue to the second soundtrack album of NCIS.

Weatherly married his Loving/The City co-star Amelia Heinle, who currently plays Victoria Newman on The Young and the Restless, in 1995. On January 10, 1996, Heinle gave birth to the couple's son, August, in New York City. The couple divorced in 1997.

In 2001, Weatherly became engaged to his Dark Angel co-star Jessica Alba, but the couple ended their engagement in 2003.

Weatherly married internist Bojana Janković in September 2009. The couple live in Los Angeles with two German Shepherd dogs, Oriana and Quantum. They have two children, a daughter, Olivia, born April 10, 2012, and a son, Liam, born October 29, 2013.

Weatherly is the uncle of actress Alexandra Breckenridge.

July 8th is Math 2.0 Day

July 8th is Math 2.0 Day, a celebration of math intermingling with technology! Have you ever wondered what life was like before we had advanced software to help us perform data analysis? I thought it might be fun to chronicle the evolution of Minitab Statistical Software.

Where we've come …

In 1972, three Penn State faculty members developed Minitab Statistical Software with the goal to incorporate the use of computers into the teaching of college statistics courses. With Minitab, computer software could now perform tedious statistical calculations rather than students having to do them “by hand” on electronic
calculators. This allowed students to concentrate on what really mattered—learning the statistical concepts!

In 1976, the “Minitab Student Handbook” was published and used alongside the software to teach students statistics in the college classroom. The combination of Minitab software and the Student Handbook completely changed the way statistics was taught.

The 1980s was an exciting time for Minitab! Visiting professors to Penn State took the software back to their home universities and Minitab established an international presence. The organization received the go-ahead from Penn State to become a private company and moved into its headquarters in State College, Pa. Students who learned Minitab in college took their knowledge with them into their careers, and as a result, industry and government started obtaining Minitab software licenses
.
During the 1990s, PCs became very affordable and because this was the predominant computing platform for development, there was much more competition from other stat packages.  Minitab focused on targeting the niche market of statistical quality improvement and soon many prestigious companies were using the software.

2000s: Minitab has become the leading general purpose statistics package used for statistical quality improvement worldwide, and in the academic world, more students have been taught statistics using Minitab than any other statistical software package.
Where we’re going …

The latest release of Minitab features a new menu called the Assistant, which helps you choose the right tool using an interactive decision tree.  The Assistant takes statistical software to a whole new level—even providing interpretation of your output.  To observe Math 2.0 Day we’ll be celebrating technology by continuing to develop new features to make our software even easier for you to use!

How are you going to celebrate Math 2.0 Day?

July 8th is SCUD Day (Savor the Comic, Unplug the Drama)

SCUD Day stands for Savor the Comic, Unplug the Drama Day, and encourages those of us whose lives might have a touch too much drama to step back, relax, and enjoy the funnier side of life. Relaxation and humor are good for your physical and mental well being, so turn the drama down a notch and enjoy a good laugh instead.
