Scream, Queens! The Top 40 Horror Films of The 80’s!

From:  The Backlot
Journey with me back to the birth of the Dead Teenager movie (actually, that began in the 70′s, so I guess it would be the Afterbirth Of The Dead Teenager Movie), the last gasps of the Italian Horror Masters, and the franchises that still continue today. Yes, your Freddy, Jason, and Michael will be represented, but I’m also going to pay tribute to the obscurities that deserve to be seen. Let’s start things off with one of those obscurities, the first, but certainly not last, Killer Rodent movie on the list.

#40
Rats: Night Of Terror!

Released in 1984, Rats: Night Of terror! was directed by schlock master Bruno Mattei (who we’ll be seeing again), and takes place in 235 A.B. (the A.B. stands for … “After The Bomb”).
Here’s the synopsis
“One hundred years after a nuclear war has devastated the planet, society has been reborn into two factions; the underground society and the scavengers above in the wastelands. A group of scavengers on bikes come across a town infested with flesh eating rats, and soon the gore is spilling everywhere.”

Oh, but there’s so much more to it than that. Hilarious dubbing, full frontal male nudity by a character named “Lucifer,” a girl who becomes a rat snack when her sleeping bag zipper gets stuck (which is why I don’t go camping), and the ending, which is one of the greatest in all of cinema. I’m presenting that ending below, because I feel it needs to be seen, and studied. But WARNING! This clip (which features the characters of “Chocolate” and “Video,” and I’ll leave it to you to guess who is who) will reveal the ending of Rats: Night Of Terror, so if you intend to see Rats: Night Of Terror and don’t want the ending spoiled … don’t watch.

The 40 Hottest Male Bodies Of 2015!

From:  Boy Culture
Torso, so fine
 Here goes!

To celebrate the arrival of 2016, check out my personal list of the 40 Hottest Male Bodies of 2015, in no particular order.

This is a subjective list, so I welcome and encourage your comments, but please refrain from insults about my taste, how you wouldn't sleep with a guy who wasn't covered head-to-toe in body hair, etc. It's just for fun.

I'm choosing not only the best bodies, but also the ones I think deserve to be called hottest, so don't worry if not every single one of them has visible abs. (Okay, most of them do.)
Nyles away

Considering this is how I look with my shirt off, I'm either the worst judge of great bodies or, perversely, maybe the best. But I was once absurdly the editor of Torso Magazine, so I figure I've got as much a right as the next schlub.

Thanks for reading all year long ...

He took it all off. Well, most of it.
 Joe Manganiello

Okay, so as I said, the list is not in any order ... but if it were, Joe Manganiello would still probably be in pole position.

In 2015, the man with the sickest abs in the movies enjoyed a lot more exposure in the Magic Mike sequel than he had in the original, showing off moves so good you almost believed that women are such generous tippers in strip joints that they throw their bills in the air nowhere near the actual dancers, as the movie suggested.

Manganiello's biggest splash of the year was his showmantic wedding to Sofia Vergara. (Their sex has to be Freddy Peterson-level.) While seeing him pledge his undying love to a girl wasn't all that erotic, his tender rendition of “Sweet Child o' Mine” sure made some gay hearts flutter.

Beachin' bod circa 2014

But back to his body—it's a work of art. Case closed.

History's Hottest Movie Actors

Jim Brown, shooting all over the place
#55
Jim Brown
(1936—)

Years ago, an elderly acquaintance of mine, when discussing Connie Francis's rape by a black man, looked off into the distance and muttered, "That's...gotta be tough." It  wasn't just the rape she meant. I think for people of her generation, the myth of the black super penis was particularly frightening/titillating. Imagine, then, seeing Raquel Welch buddying up with football player Jim Brown in 100 Rifles—both at the peak of their physical perfection. For fans of the football legend, a pass would've been welcome at any time.

305 Films Eligible For Oscar

From: The Film Expierence
The Academy has released the list of all titles that are eligible for Best Picture and general Oscar categories this year. (Note: a few of the categories have different rules like docs, animated films, foreign films). The most amusing thing about looking over the list is tallying how many you've never heard of and how many you forgot were actually released. It's also fun to see really odd juxtapositions that come from alpha order... like Tangerine sandwiched between two bro friendly franchises: Taken 3 and Ted 2...

For those of you that are like "hey, I thought ____ was in the running for foreign film last year". Yes it's true. There are some of those. But if a film does not have a theatrical qualifying release in the States the year it is submitted for foreign language film and then does not with the nomination for foreign film, it can be eligible for general categories the next year if it receives a theatrical release. That's what happened to City of God years ago; it was submitted for 2002 and snubbed for foreign only to be released in 2003 with shocking Oscar attention as a result. But not every foreign title, even if it gets a release during the calendar year it's Oscar submitted for best foreign language film does the paperwork to be eligible in other categories. For instance the fine Brazilian film The Second Mother was theatrically released and earned nearly $400,000 in the art houses over the early fall but it is not eligible outside of foreign film this year. Same story with The Assassin which is now in theaters but only bothered to be considered for foreign film (in other words you won't see it as a surprise Best Cinematography nominee though many fans were rooting for that).

Other things worth noting. Some films that feel like 2015 films actually had qualifying runs in 2014 so they were eligible last year (damn those qualifying runs) -- Paddington is the biggest hit that fits that category. Maps to the Stars was lost somewhere between the two years. Notable films that hit theaters in 2015 that we talked about righ here on the blog but that won't be eligible (probably because they didn't bother to submit paperwork) include: the drug drama Animals, the period romance A Little Chaos with Kate Winslet, Song One with Anne Hathaway and Strangerland with Nicole Kidman.
