Thousands of students from the University of Texas protested the state's new open carry laws Wednesday with dildos.
Yes, you read that right.
The protest, entitled "Cocks Not Glocks" was started as a "fun" way to get students of all ages involved in the political process according to The Guardian. Both dildos and vibrators were handed out during the protest, and students are encouraged to brandish both around campus until campus carry is repealed.
The idea came to Jessica Jin, a student, after listening to a local radio show about gun violence.
"Everybody's make a dick joke on the Internet before, and you never think anything's going to come of it... I was like, 'What a bunch of dildos on the radio; they don't want to say anything that's too divisive or offer any solutions. They're just going to say: 'we have to learn to live with it. Are you kidding me?" she told Campus Reform. Jin also added that dildos are banned on campus, but with the new legislation guns are not.
Jin put out the invite to a small group of her friends, but the event exploded into something else entirely; there were 4,500 students in attendance.
Though the concept of carrying a dildo might be funny to some, the reality that we're in dire need of some form of gun regulation is not. And judging by the number of people who attended "Cocks Not Glocks," we're not alone in thinking that.
