New reports suggest that the gunman behind the horrific attacks at Pulse Nightclub might have visited Disney World’s Gay Days earlier this month.
According to one U.S. law enforcement official, Omar Mateen was spotted several times between June 1 and June 6 visiting Disney Springs, an outdoor shopping and entertainment complex in Disney World. Another official insinuated that information provided to the FBI by Disney made it clear that Mateen was not visiting the theme park as a tourist, which has led some officials to believe that he was casing sites for a potential attack.
Mateen’s frequent visits sync up with Disney World’s popular Gay Days, an annual event that brings together thousands of LGBT individuals and their families for a week of celebration from May 31-June 6.
The claims are difficult to investigate, but officials believe Mateen’s wife Noor Salman accompanied him on his visits to Disney World. At this point, she claims to have known nothing of his intentions.
