Feminists Remake The Spice Girls’ “Wannabe” To Promote Gender Equality

Victoria Beckham approves of "Girl Power being used to empower a new generation."
From: NewNowNext

An amazing new video by the UN’s Global Goals initiative puts a new twist on The Spice Girls’ “Wannabe” to promote gender equality.

The video features famous women from around the globe, including Bollywood actress Jacqueline Fernandez and British hip hop group M.O., recreating the iconic video while signs in the background describe what women “really really want”: equal pay for equal work, quality education, an end to violence against girls.

A description on YouTube reads:

In 2015 world leaders promised to put girls and women first when they signed up to the Sustainable Development Goals to end poverty, fix climate change and tackle inequalities.

Girls and women are disproportionately affected by these challenges and are key to building resilient communities to withstand them. That’s why we need to ensure World Leaders and the Secretary General of the United Nations listen to the voices of girls and women and put them first in policies and plans.
2016 is our chance to use our collective power and tell world leaders what we really really want for girls and women.

The new campaign urges women to share pictures of themselves calling for what they “really really want” so that they can be shared with United Nations influencers.

The Spice Girls themselves have even supported the campaign on social media.

“20 years on – Girl Power being used to empower a new generation,” said Victoria Beckham. “I’m so proud of The Global Goals.”

Said Melanie C: “So flattered and honoured that our crazy song is being used so beautifully for such a great cause.”
