Ten months after Barilla chairman Guido Barilla said that he’d “never do an advert with a homosexual family,” rival pasta company Findus has decided to show up the Italian homophobe.
In this new commercial, Luca has his mother over for dinner at his flat with his “roommate,” Gianni.
After he blows her away with his microwavable pasta, he drops this bombshell on her — “Mum, there is another little surprise: Gianni isn't only my flatmate, he’s my partner.”
But it’s Luca who winds up surprised when she replies, “My darling, I already got that,” and tenderly touches his hand.
Of course it’s all in Italian, so unless you speak the language you’ll just have to take our word for it.
Italian Gay Center spokesman Fabrizzio Marrazzo told Il Messaggero:
“The advert clearly demonstrates the simplicity of a gay couple’s daily life, and acceptance of them in an intelligent way. We applaud Findus and call on all companies, big and small, to do the same. We’re still waiting for Barilla to give us a sign in that respect.”
