According to an anonymous source, the two divas met in Los Angeles this past week to discuss the project with the heads of their label, Columbia Records.
“This could easily become one of the most important and lucrative collaborations in modern music history. And they are both very much up for it,” the source told the Daily Star Sunday.
“Despite the huge gulf in age and their different genres, both have said they would love to get together in the studio and record a duets album.”
“The feeling is that the tracks would most likely be new versions of their own best-known numbers with maybe one or two new songs added to the mix,” the source concluded.
The source added that the potential album would be similar in style to the critically-acclaimed collaboration between Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga, Cheek to Cheek.
Though both stars are incredibly busy at the moment, with Barbra having just wrapped on her latest album Encore: Movie Partners Sing Broadway and Adele still finishing up her North American tour, it would be an absolute dream come true to hear these two living legends sing together.
