One Year Later: Half Of Gay Couples Who Live Together Are Married

A new gallup poll highlights the state of marriage equality one year after "Obergefell v. Hodges."
From: NewNowNext
A new poll from Gallup indicates that 49% of all gay couples who are living together are legally married.

That’s a significant jump from 38%, the percentage who were married before Obergefell v. Hodges brought marriage equality to all 50 states.

Using rough population estimates, Gallup claims that nearly one million Americans are now in same-sex marriages, or 0.4% of all adults in the U.S.

Growth has been seen in all states, but the biggest jump has been in states that previously banned marriage equality. Still, the proportion of married same-sex couples overall remains higher in states in which the practice was legal before the Supreme Court ruling.

Presumably they’re just more inviting to LGBT people in general.

Below, more highlights from the Gallup poll.

* 3.9% of adults in America are lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender

* One in 10 LGBT people are in a same-sex marriage.

* There are 491,000 same-sex marriages in the U.S., up from 368,000 a year ago.

* 49.9% of LGBT people identify as single or never married.

* More men than women are in same-sex marriages (10.5% vs. 8.8%).

* Approximately 123,000 same-sex marriages have taken place since the Obergefell v. Hodges decision,.
