Two iconic and mouthwatering Michigan foods are getting married - in a pie.
Vernors and the Grand Traverse Pie Company have teamed up to create a Vernors Cherry Pie - a limited-edition dessert being rolled out in July.
It will feature the bubbly soda that is Vernors and Montmorency cherries grown in Northern Michigan. The pie will be topped with latticed dough. It will be available July 1 until Sept. 11.
Customers can pick up the pie at any one of Grand Traverse Pie Company's 15 Michigan locations, or its site in Terre Haute, Ind.
Margaret Alexander, director of brand essence for the Traverse City-based dessert mecca, said it looks for partners to develop creative pies, especially for the summer.
She said with both companies are celebrating birthdays this year, it was a perfect match. Vernors is marking its 150th and Grand Traverse Pie Company is celebrating 20 years.
The specialty pie will be sold for $19.99.
