Macklemore introduced Logo’s new partnership with Out Leadership at Trailblazer Honors on Saturday, and called for sweeping legislative changes to enforce greater LGBT equality in a short speech honoring the victims of the horrific shooting at Pulse nightclub.
“First let me say that my thoughts are with the loved ones of those lost at Pulse on June 12,” the singer-songwriter said.
“In the aftermath of this horrific tragedy, we cannot let fear and hatred divide us. In any civil rights movement progress can be slow. In this country you can get married one day and go back to work the next, and be fired because of your sexuality and gender identity. This has to change.”
“That’s why Logo has teamed up with Out Leadership, the first global LGBT business organization that partners with senior LGBT and ally executives” to show how increased intolerance and acceptance in the workplace can ultimately benefit big business.
Leaders who appear in the video below include Lanaya Irvin, Director of Global Equities at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Jonathan Mildenhall, Chief Marketing Officer at Airbnb, Alaina Kupec, District Business Director at Pfizer, and Beth Brooke-Marciniak, Global Vice Chair of Public Policy at EY.
