Conservative minister Justine Greening made history with a tweet this past Saturday that confirmed she was in a same-sex relationship, a first for a female cabinet member.
Greening, who serves as the UK’s Secretary of State for International development, posted the tweet in celebration of London Pride, which took place Saturday. It read: “Today’s a good day to say I’m in a happy same sex relationship. I campaigned for Stronger In but sometimes you’re better off out! #Pride2016.”

The minister received an outpouring of love from constituents and colleagues in response to her post, including tweets of support from Prime Minister David Cameron and Chancellor George Osborne.

Greening’s announcement fit in perfectly with this year’s theme for Pride London, No Filter, which Pride Director Michael Salter-Church described as a “call to arms. A call for people to be themselves, to live as their true selves.”
