Liam Gallagher is being criticized by fans on social media for a homophobic tweet sent out only a few days after the massacre at a gay bar in Orlando last weekend.
The Oasis star was tweeting anti-gay slurs at Russian soccer fans, who have been caught up in violence during Marseille’s Euro Championships.
“Russian hooligans skintight shorts bumbags batty boy muscles ha ha I’d be more worried bout getting me arse pinched LG X,” he wrote.
Antony Cotton, who stars on the British soap Coronation Street, quickly responded with disgust over the insensitive remarks.
Especially in light of what happened in Orlando a few days ago, that tweet is ugly and upsetting @liamgallagher #NoBystanders— Antony Cotton (@antonycotton) June 16, 2016
Other tweets soon followed, calling out the musician for his choice of words.
@liamgallagher Given you had your teeth knocked out by an estate agent I'm sure no "batty boy" would have a problem laying you out.— Br00zR 父 ✊2⃣8⃣ (@Br00zR) June 16, 2016
@liamgallagher Batty boy? Google "London Gay Men's Chorus Soho Vigil" to see 1000s of ppl standing vs homophobia. Then try doing the same— Queerily (@Queerily) June 16, 2016
Gallagher has since deleted the original tweet and has issued an apology.
If I've upset anybody with my tweets I apologise that includes you RKID as you were LG x— Liam Gallagher (@liamgallagher) June 16, 2016
