Kristin Chenoweth is the latest celebrity to say “Good morning” to Baltimore as she joins NBC’s next musical, Hairspray Live!
The Wicked star better get used to the taste of Old Bay because she will be playing the role of Velma Von Tussle, aka Miss Baltimore Crabs-the musical’s main villain.
The Hairspray Live! Twitter account tweeted out a pic of Chenoweth trying on her new crown for the role:
Dreams do come true! @KChenoweth has joined the cast of #HairsprayLive as Velma Von Tussle!✨ https://t.co/JvOfTsvZn6 pic.twitter.com/EVMF2zVJSQ— Hairspray Live! (@HairsprayLive) June 21, 2016
She has some big shoes to fill since Velma was previously played by Debbie Harry in the original 1988 film and then by Michelle Pfeiffer in the 2007 movie musical remake.
Chenoweth joins previously announced castmates Harvey Fierstein, Derek Hough, Jennifer Hudson and Martin Short.
Watch Pfeiffer sing Velma’s “Miss Baltimore Crabs” number from the 2007 musical and picture Chenoweth belting her heart out as your new crab queen:
NBC’s Hairspray Live! is slated to air later this year.
