Demi Lovato took a stand against anti-trans bathroom bills during her performance at the Billboard Music Awards last night.
Singing her hit “Cool for the Summer” against a shimmering backdrop of mirrored tiles, Lovato strut around the stage in a bedazzled top emblazoned with an “all gender” bathroom symbol.
Earlier this month, Lovato and Nick Jonas canceled upcoming tour dates in North Carolina in a show of protest against HB 2, a new state law that dismantled LGBT anti-discrimination ordinances statewide and effectively banned transgender people from using public restrooms that match their gender identities.
“One of our goals for the tour has always been to create an atmosphere where every single attendee feels equal, included, and accepted for who they are,” the singers said in a joint statement published on Twitter.
Lovato has been a longtime ally of the LGBT community and even revealed her grandfather was gay at the 2014 Logo Trailblazer Honors.
