“Dear Mr. Jesus”
Powersource (featuring Sharon)
Exploitative dreck that was recorded in 1985, but became a hit in 1987 coinciding with some high-profile child-abuse cases across the country. Six-year-old Sharon Batts recited words no six-year-old in the history of the world would ever say (Wild And Angry Hands?), and the ending, when Sharon reveals … her secret … goes beyond manipulation. It’s appalling. The song actually hit the Hot 100 and peaked at #61 in January 1988, before the inevitable parodies and backlash. Thank you Mr. Jesus.
