Polarbares opened in 2011. Based out of Toronto, their initial offering was sufficient, if not just plain fantastic. I ordered multiple pair shortly after they opened, both in brief and trunk styles. While the color selection was limited, e-mail contact with them indicated that they had plans to expand on the horizon. For this review, I am only reviewing their early offerings--The Gear and Caribbean line. these were made from nylon spandex and differ from their later offerings which are cotton based.
Appearance: The colors are bold, and the style is very well form fitting, creating a strong look that is also rugged and masculine. The signature waistband stands out, giving both the trunk and the brief a nice solid look. The spandex has an almost compression look to it despite being completely comfortable. And despite the lack of elastic in the legs of the trunks, there is no problem of them riding up uncomfortably or dangling too loosely.
Comfort: What can I say here. FANTASTIC. The briefs give better support than a jock, supporting your boys, but not squeezing them. While the waistband has some overlap in the back, it's hardly noticeable. The briefs grip your ass and feel amazing to the touch. I've often forgotten I have them on. For a more relaxed fit, the trunks give you a slightly looser feel down below, while still feeling absolutely amazing. Perfect for outfits where you want no lines showing.
Durability: None of mine have even so much as a loose thread here. these babies are well made indeed. If I had to complain here, I'd say that, like all spandex, washing them causes shrinkage. Be prepared to buy a size larger if you want to get a long life out of them. Workouts--no problem. I've done 45 minute sessions on the elliptical with these under shorts, and zero chafing.
Pricing: Not bad at all. At $20 a pair, they're on par with alot of other companies. However, hop on their mailing list, and I've seen sales as big as 40% off entire orders. Makes them really affordable. And if you order as many as I did, you may even get the cool t-shirt like I did.
Overall, 3.5/4 Stars! I will add more pics pf pairs I own, and I hope to review their newer lines in the future.
As you can see, the trunk is every bit as awesome as the briefs are. The pouch fits perfectly, the legs are snug, but not constricting. I don't have problems with mine rolling up or bunching up at all. The logo waistband is an awesome contrast that immediately draws the eye.
The rear is excellent for keeping a shape, and accentuating your best parts! SUPREME comfort and amazing style. The pouch also leaves little to the imagination. Just as you want it.
Whether you're sleeping or lounging, clubbing, or just trying to feel sexy, these things are the absolute best. Highly recommended.
