Increasingly popular, tattoos are no longer reserved for societal outcasts like bikers, runaways, gang members and sailors. They are becoming more mainstream and an important staple of self expression and even style.
Even advertising and the world of fashion have embraced the tattoo revolution, with poster campaigns full of inked individuals splashed across billboards. A quick look at the latest lookbooks from the likes of Urban Outfitters, Zara and Topman reveals a plethora of tattooed models showing of the season's latest trends.
Not too long ago H&M recently, and most famously, jumped on the bandwagon with their collaboration alongside soccer
player/superstar David Beckham, making use of the tattooed body of a cultural and style icon for their new 'bodywear' line:
David Beckham for H&M CampaignStill, tattoos are not for everyone. But for those who decide to adorn their body with this art form rather as a sense of pride or to memorialize important events (birth, death, lover, religious belief, etc), just know that the surge in popularity and acceptability does come with its drawbacks. For starters, with so many going under the needle in order to achieve an individual look, the nonconformists are becoming the conformed.
Still, many get tattooed simply because they think tattoos are cool and attractive. That said, either you like them, you hate them or possibly even regret having one done.
Keep on stylin’ and before you decide to get a tattoo, remember that the real deal always leaves permanent scars and make sure they use sterile needles.
