Looking for a bright light in this dark world? Perhaps you can find solace in the fact that the musical about Cher’s life is getting closer to a Broadway premiere.
Producers on the project, which is currently being called The Cher Show, announced that there will be a staged reading in New York City that will run for two weeks in January.
A casting notice uncovered by Playbill is also giving us some insight into what the show may look like when it’s officially up and running.
The breakdown reads, “In this production, the characters of BABE, LADY and STAR represent Cher at different moments of her life—starting as a teenager who falls for Sonny Bono (BABE), a successful music star navigating the challenges of the entertainment industry (LADY) and the lady we know today with a fascinating wealth of life experience, successes and failures (STAR).”
The show will feature some of the star’s most iconic songs, including “I Got You Babe,” “Believe,” “Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves” and “If I Could Turn Back Time.”
The reading will be directed by Jason Moore (Pitch Perfect, Avenue Q) and is scheduled for January 2-14, 2017.
