ABBA Agrees To Reunite For New Virtual Reality Experience

The new show may feature "hyper-realistic digital humans."
From: NewNowNext
All four members of the iconic Swedish pop group ABBA have agreed to reunite and collaborate on a new virtual reality experience, expected to debut sometime in 2018.

The dynamic foursome — Agnetha Fältskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, and Anni-Frid Lyngstad — shot to global stardom after winning the 1974 Eurovision Song Contest, and have steadfastly turned down any offers to reunite since retiring their act officially amid tensions between members in 1982.

Now, 34 years after their last public performance, the band has decided to change course.

“We are exploring a new technological world, with virtual reality and artificial intelligence at the forefront, that will allow us to create new forms of entertainment and content we couldn’t have previously imagined,” said Simon Fuller, the new project’s primary backer.

According to Variety, the English music mogul and Idol franchise founder “says he’s been investing in VR technologies and developing ’hyper-realistic digital humans’ over the last few years.”

In a statement confirming the new project, Andersson said: “We’re inspired by the limitless possibilities of what the future holds and are loving being a part of creating something new and dramatic here. A time machine that captures the essence of who we were. And are.”

Lyngstad added: “Our fans around the world are always asking us to re-form and so I hope this new Abba creation will excite them as much as it excites me!”

Below, relive the magic of ABBA with their winning 1974 Eurovision performance of “Waterloo.”
