“Ugly Betty” Cast Reunites, Reveals What Happened To Their Characters

From: NewNowNext
The cast of ABC’s Ugly Betty reunited at this year’s ATX Festival, reminiscing about their time together and contemplating the possibility of resurrecting the beloved series.

Actors America Ferrera, Vanessa Williams, Ana Ortiz, Ashley Jensen, Michael Urie, Rebecca Romijn, Judith Light, Eric Mabius, Tony Plana and Mark Indelicato came together with out show creator Silvio Horta to talk about what the future may have held for their characters. (Becki Newton, who played receptionist Amanda, was ill.)
Williams joked that acid-tongued editor Wilhelmina Slater and sarcastic gay assistant Marc St. James would probably have “taken their shit” to London to run a British version of Mode magazine.
Speaking of the show’s dynamic duo, Urie recalled the first time he went to the makeup trailer, where Williams said to him, “You’re Marc? This will be fun.”

Of magazine matriarch Claire Meade, Light lamented that she’d probably be “back in the sanitarium,” while Mabius offered that her dim hunk of a son, Daniel, would have given the Mode reigns to his trans sister, Alexis, (Romijn).

Ferrera said, by 2016, Betty would be returning to New York after six years in London to find that sister Hilda has had another baby and opened a salon, while Indelicato thought Justin would be finishing fashion school. (No word on if he’s still still dating high school love Austin.)

Could we see an actual reunion? Last year the ATX Gilmore Girls cast reunion led to the series being revived on Netflix. Ferrera hopes the same will happen with Ugly Betty, urging fans to get #HuluBringBackUglyBetty trending.

Though it was only a few years ago, the show was trailblazing in many regards—a mainstream network series with a Latino family at its core was practically unheard of, as was one with a smart, successful trans woman and a flamboyant (and happy) gay teen. Indelicato revealed how own coming-out process mirrored Justin’s.

“Mark, I remember having a really interesting conversation with your mom about that,” Rebecca Romijn said to the young actor, whose mom told him “you were going to be able to help kids doing this role.”

Horta also revealed his original idea to have Betty be an FBI agent undercover at a fashion magazine.

We’re kind of glad that didn’t pan out.
