It’s Memorial Day, when we honor the men and women who died while serving in the Armed Forces.

It’s also Fleet Week, when hundreds of sailors and marines pour into New York City for a little well-deserved R&R. In honor of both of those occasions, we’re presenting a collection of vintage photos of seamen from the 1930s, unearthed by photographer Alan Light.

“Years after my step-grandfather Jerry Southwick died, I found a bunch of his old Navy pictures in a box,” wrote Light. “They are really cool, and frankly a bit homoerotic.”

We can definitely see that.
