We’ll be reuniting with Patrick, Dom and Agustin this summer: HBO has announced Looking: The Movie will air Saturday, July 23.
According to the synopsis, Patrick (Jonathan Groff) “returns to San Francisco for the first time in almost a year to celebrate a momentous event with his old friends. In the process, he must face the unresolved relationships he left behind and make difficult choices about what’s important to him.”

Groff got time off from the Broadway smash Hamilton, where he played King George, to shoot his Looking scenes.
HBO cancelled Looking last year after two low-rated seasons, but network president Michael Lombardo promised a standalone film would be forthcoming.
“There were some fans that really wanted to find [closure] with the story lines, [and the writers] wanted to wrap up storytelling for the characters,” said Lombardo. “I thought the show, creatively, was really doing something that I hadn’t seen on any other show—particularly dealing with gay lives.”
Lombardo added that, as a gay man, he was proud there was a show “that felt like it was dealing very honestly and openly with gay men and their lives, without putting them into a comedic mode.”
Andrew Haigh and Michael Lannan wrote the screenplay for the film, with Haigh directing, as well.
