Original Dr. Frank-N-Furter Tim Curry has signed on to Fox’s TV remake of The Rocky Horror Picture Show in a different role. Curry, who played Dr. Frank-N-Furter in the original Broadway cast and the 1975 movie (see photo below), returns as the Criminologist Narrator in the reimagining of 20th Century Fox’s 1975 cult classic, it was announced today at TCA. Laverne Cox is playing Dr. Frank-N-Furter in the two-hour taped event.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show follows sweethearts Janet Weiss (Victoria Justice) and Brad Majors (Ryan McCartan), who stumble upon the bizarre abode of Dr. Frank-N-Furter (Cox), a sexually ambiguous, flirtatious alien mad scientist. He is holding an annual Transylvanian science convention to showcase the birth of “Rocky Horror” – a fit, attractive man (Staz Nair) created solely to fulfill Frank’s desires.
A prolific stage actor, Curry appeared in English productions such as Threepenny Opera, Love For Love and Rivals and had a starring role in Pirates of Penzance. He earned his first Tony nom for his role as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in Broadway’s Amadeus and 12 years later scored another for My Favorite Year. His TV credits include guest-starring roles on Hot in Cleveland, Criminal Minds and Psych. On film, Curry appeared in Annie, Clue, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, Charlie’s Angels and Scary Movie 2.
