CHACE CRAWFORD as Nate
It is clear I love this show, and admire the talent of beauty of the entire cast. I have to say Chace Crawford won me over as my favorite guy on the show. Like the masses, I think Chace is one of the most beautiful men I have ever seen. Those beautiful eyes, that face, that body. I lusted after Chace since The Covenant, and followed him mostly through the past year through pictures on the internet. What I was surprised to find out when watching the show was how effective an actor he is. Although GG is full of high drama, Chace, and Nate provided some of the shows most meaningful moments. Moments of pain and desperation, played quietly and subtly by Chace. Never over the top, Chace under plays most of his scenes which fit perfectly for his character. Some of the scenes involving Nate and his parents were heartbreaking. Nate, as played by Chace always comes across as a decent guy, although conflicted no matter what he is involved with. It was surprising to me that Chace was not featured more in season 1 actually as he certainly took off with fans once the show hit the air. I am looking forward to more Nate in season 2, and although I love Dan and Serena together, I suspect Nate’s strong feelings towards her will factor in during the upcoming season.
Part of me thinks Chace regrets this photo shoot, but part of me is sure when he gets older he will be happy to have done it!

PENN BADGLEY as Dan
Got to give it up for for Penn Badgley who up until last night would have been my favorite guy from GG. Penn is one of those great actors who seems at ease with comedy and drama, and I love when they write Dan with a lightness and with wit. There were some really nice scenes of banter between Dan and Lily I hope to see more of in season 2. Dan is really the heart of the show and is the character whose story line I was most interested in following. Penn is one of those actors who besides being incredibly good looking is also incredibly likable and draws the audience in to care about him and what his character is going through. A very talented man!
As I said, Penn was going to be my number one guy all along, and not that he will care, but I lost just a bit of respect for him after watching the Gossip Girl DVD extras. Maybe it was that he came off a bit arrogant, maybe it was him being called ‘broody’ by others. Broody is a word usually, to me, associated with someone with a slightly bigger ego than they have earned. Broody can be sexy, but it can also be a big pain in the ass. But what most bothered me about Penn was something very small, yet had an impact on me. During the bloopers, he seemed to be swearing every word or two, and was constantly beeped. I try not to judge, but don’t really respect constant swearing. I respect someone who uses the word ‘fuck’ when needed, not like it was another word like ‘and’, ‘but’ or ‘to’. The swearing really wasn’t as big a deal to me as was the fact that in many of the scenes Penn was bleeped in he was with with his TV sister, Taylor Momsen who would have been 13 during some of the early filming. I certainly would hope if my 13 or 14 year old daughter were working on a set, the adults around them might be setting more of a positive professional example. Sorry to rant, but it really struck me...
Some early Penn
