The bitch-slap seen and heard 'round the world |
Mildred Pierce
1945
In what's becoming a rarity for films of the 1940s, one of the movie's leads is very much alive—Ann Blyth (b. August 16, 1928), Oscar-worthy as “Veda.”
Also, Dorothy Barrett (noted for her appearance in The Wizard of Oz) is apparently alive and either 96 or 97.
IMDb lists no death dates for uncredited players William Alcorn (b. 1920), Elyse Brown, John Compton (b. June 21, 1923), Robert Evans, Don Grant, Dorothy Hack (b. January 19, 1939), Charles Jordan, Robert Loraine, Jack O'Connor (he appeared in a 1915 film so is certainly dead), John Sheridan or Johnny Walsh (b. 1924). No idea if any are alive, though Ms. Hack, a child in the film, has a fighting shot!
