Putting the fag in Sarcófago...

The Soft Pink Truth, AKA Drew Daniel (one half of that Matmos duo), had the hilarious idea to cover black metal songs after deejaying at Rainbow in the Dark, a Brooklyn club night for homosexual metal enthusiasts. Soon his absurd proposition became a compulsion, and now Baltimore’s sassy satyr is back from the basement with a wicked new record, ‘Why Do the Heathen Rage?’.

‘Ready to Fuck’, originally by Brazillians Sarcófago, has morphed into a funky, sexed-up number, which incidentally caused ‘a lot of tears and mascara running’ behind the scenes. Drew recently brought it to our attention that metalheads in Norway, whence black metal was born, borrowed so much of their look from the South American rockers.

Drew’s makeup tip for those who want to try their own corpse paint at home? ‘Practice, practice, practice… It all comes together with the lipline — having a really tragic “trout pout” is key. Also, don’t get too whimsical with the eyes, or you’ll look like a comic book store goth’.

It’s also worth noting that illustrator Mavado Charon has desecrated the cover with his characteristic scenes of utter mayhem.
