Robert Redford
(1936—)
One of the cinema's most durable leading men, his name became a touchstone for silver-screen studliness. A transparent blond, he nonetheless has favored opaque roles, often strong, silent types whose still waters run deep. His pairings with Paul Newman (who appears up the list quite a bit) were inspired and murder on the corneas for viewers torn between focusing on one or the other, and opposite Barbra Streisand he personified the beautiful man most people want so badly but can never possess.
