Favorite TV Star for the Day: November 19, 2007

Kelly Bishop
From:  Favorite Hunks & Other Things
Kelly Bishop is a Broadway star (Winning a Tony for A Chorus Line) Who stole the show as Emily Gilmore. Why this talented woman did not win an EMMY is beyond me. Hopefully she will be back on the tube soon. A Toast to the great Kelly Bishop!

Carole "Kelly" Bishop (born February 28, 1944) is an American actress and dancer, best known for her roles as matriarch Emily Gilmore on the series Gilmore Girls, and as the mother of Jennifer Grey's character in the film Dirty Dancing. Bishop created the role of Sheila in A Chorus Line, for which she won a Tony Award for Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Musical. She also starred as Fanny Flowers in the ABC Family short-lived comedy-drama series Bunheads.

Bishop was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado to Jane Lenore (née Wahtola) and Lawrence Boden Bishop. She grew up in Denver, Colorado, where she trained to be a ballet dancer, attending the American Ballet Theatre School and the San Jose Ballet School. At eighteen, she headed to New York City and landed her first job dancing in a year-round ballet company at Radio City Music Hall. Bishop continued to dance in Las Vegas, summer stock and on television until she was cast in 1967 in Golden Rainbow, her first Broadway role.

Bishop's big break came when she was cast as the sexy, hard-edged Sheila in the Broadway production of A Chorus Line. Her performance earned her the 1976 Tony Award as "Best Supporting or Featured Actress (Musical)" as well as the 1976 Drama Desk Award for "Outstanding Actress in a Musical". She also

acted in the Broadway productions of Six Degrees of Separation, Neil Simon's Proposals, the Tony Award-winning The Last Night of Ballyhoo and Bus Stop. It wasn't long before she was cast opposite Jill Clayburgh in Paul Mazursky's big-screen drama An Unmarried Woman (1978). In 1986, Bishop was initially cast in a much smaller part in the film Dirty Dancing but was called upon to play Mrs. Houseman when Lynne Lipton, the actress assigned the role, fell ill during the first week of shooting.
Bishop went on to play a "mom" to high-profile stars in features: Howard Stern's in the Betty Thomas-directed comedy Private Parts (1997), and Tobey Maguire's in Wonder Boys (2000). Additional feature credits include Ich und Er (USA: Me and Him, 1988), Queens Logic (1991), Café Society (1995), Miami Rhapsody (1995) and Blue Moon (2002). On television, Bishop starred in the Mike Nichols' The Thorns opposite Tony Roberts and Marilyn Cooper. She played Lisa Ann Walter's mother on My Wildest Dreams. She has guest-starred on Kate & Allie, Law & Order, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and Murphy Brown.

From 2000-07, Bishop starred in the CW Television Network series Gilmore Girls as wealthy New England matriarch Emily Gilmore, mother of Lorelai and grandmother of Rory.
Bishop was in Becky Shaw at the Second Stage Theatre in 2008. She then performed briefly in the 2011 revival of Anything Goes alongside Sutton Foster and Joel Grey. She replaced Jessica Walter in the role of Evangeline Harcourt.
Bishop co-starred as Fanny Flowers on the ABC Family program Amy Sherman-Palladino's Bunheads, in which she reunited with Sutton Foster.

The show was canceled after one season.

Bishop resides in South Orange, New Jersey, where she lives with her husband, TV talk show host Lee Leonard. She has no children.

Emmitt Smith
July 1, 1996
Emmitt James Smith, III (born May 15, 1969) is a retired American football player who was a running back in the National Football League (NFL) for fifteen seasons during the 1990s and 2000s. Considered one of the greatest and the single most complete running back in NFL history, Smith played college football for the University of Florida, where he was an All-American. A first-round pick in the 1990 NFL Draft, he played professionally for the Dallas Cowboys and Arizona Cardinals of the NFL.
During his long professional career, he became the NFL's all-time rushing leader, breaking the record formerly held by Walter Payton, and played for three Super Bowl-winning Dallas Cowboys teams. Smith is the only running back to ever win a Super Bowl championship, the NFL Most Valuable Player award, the NFL rushing crown, and the Super Bowl Most Valuable Player award all in the same season (1993). He is also one of only four running backs to lead the NFL in rushing three or more consecutive seasons, joining Steve Van Buren, Jim Brown and Earl Campbell. Smith led the league in rushing and won the Super Bowl in the same year three times (1992, 1993, and 1995) when to that point it had never been done. Smith is also one of only two non-kickers in NFL history to score more than 1,000 career points (the other being Jerry Rice). Smith was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2010, and is the first player from the 1990 NFL Draft to be inducted.
While playing for the Dallas Cowboys, Smith, quarterback Troy Aikman, and wide receiver Michael Irvin were known as "The Triplets," and led their team to three Super Bowl championships during the 1990s.

Great Gay Reasons to Love Rugby

From:  The Backlot
Compared to other professional team sports, rugby has more than its share of gay allies… as well as some actual out players. It also boasts some impressive male eye candy. In fact, if you set out to design a team sport to appeal to gay men, you couldn't do better than rugby.

Rugby” as we know it was invented in the the mid-1800s at a school in the town of Rugby, Warwickshire, England. There are many similarities between American football and rugby, but two fundamental differences stand out: there is no passing forward of the ball (doing so results in a penalty); and there is very little protective padding. Players in light shirts, short-shorts and knee socks run, block, bump and tackle other players with impunity – and no body armor whatsoever. This leads, inevitably, to the sight of hot, well-muscled (and frequently muddy) men scrumming, tussling, rocking and rolling across local fields while their equally handsome teammates cheer them on.

Which leads us to our first and second admittedly prurient reasons for loving the sport: the men playing it are sexy as all hell ….

The Warm Up: Training Sessions
As they say about rugby, “Those allergic to physical exertion are advised to take up something more gentle.”

November 19th is Have A Bad Day Day

Have a Bad Day Day is today... isn't this just wonderful!?

As we began to research this day, we expected to find that this day was intended to recognize that everybody has a bad day once in a while.

Au Contrare!!!!

Believe it or not, Have a Bad Day Day was created to encourage us to wish people to have a bad day. The intent is to have sales people stop saying to their customers "have a good day", and replace it with "have a bad day".

At this point, we must remind you that we do not create special days or their meaning. We only report to you those that exist. And, this is truly the meaning and intent of this day, as stated by the creator.

So, in keeping with the intent of this day, we hope you Have a Bad Day!!

November 19th is World Toilet Day

Ashton Kutcher
In 2001, the World Toilet Organization declared its founding day, 19 November, as World Toilet Day. Since then, 19 November has been observed globally by its member organizations. In September 2009, a new website was launched dedicated to the celebration of World Toilet Day. Its 2012 slogan was “I give a shit, do you?”.
