“I’ll try to help the president in any way I can.”From: NewNowNext
At least one member of the LGBT community is riding high after Donald Trump’s Election Day victory: Paypal billionaire Peter Thiel will be the president-elect’s adviser on technology and innovation.
Silicon Valley distanced itself from Thiel after he came out in support of Trump, speaking at the Republican National Convention this summer and writing him a $1.25 million campaign check last month.
“A page in the book of history has turned, and there is an opening to think about some of our problems from a new perspective,” Thiel told The New York Times. “I’ll try to help the president in any way I can.”
Thiel said he has felt that the political optimism of recent decades “was deeply out of touch,” leading him to put his weight behind Trump. “In some ways, a more pessimistic candidate would do better, because they would resonate with these broad economic realities.”
There had been rumors Thiel was going to be tapped for the Supreme Court by Trump—he had applied for clerkships with Justices Scalia and Kennedy when he was younger.
But whether he’s on the bench or just has the president’s ear, it appears his gamble has paid off.
“What Trump represents isn’t crazy,” Thiel said in a recent speech. “And it isn’t going away.”
