The Rio 2016 Olympics Water Polo Finals had great contests yesterday as the Tournament comes to a conclusion.
The Serbians beat Italy 10–8 and Croatia defeated Montenegro 12–8 to set up gold medal showdown. Italy is the only team not from from "Water Polo Central," that is Eastern Europe, in the finals.
The Serbia-Croatia match featured local rivalry, certainly, a match for the ages.
Also featured was the 5th (Hungary vs. Greece) and the 7th (Brazil vs. Spain) place matches'
After losing to Italy in the semi-finals of the London 2012 Olympic Games, Serbia got their revenge on Thursday by handily schooling Italy, 10-8. The score appears better than the game was, Serbia started the first quarter by reaching a 5-0 lead.
Against Italy it was Andrija Prlainovic who set Serbia on their way to victory.
Serbia went up 6-0 before Valentino Gallo and Alessandro Velotto found a way through for Italy to cut the deficit to four at half-time.
Croatia was contesting their second successive Olympic final after beating Montenegro 12-8 on Thursday.
It is no surprise Serbia started Saturday's final against Croatia as favorites as they have dominated the international water polo scene since finishing third at the 2012 Olympics, winning six of the seven major events staged, a world Championship, four world league titles, 2 European Championships and the 2014 World Cup
Serbia went on to win the Gold, beating Croatia 11 to 7! Italy took home the Bronze!
