After coming out publicly earlier this year, Colton Haynes is now the recipient of the Human Rights Campaign’s Visibility Award.
HRC President Chad Griffin says the young actor has inspired LGBT youth all over the world to live their lives as authentically as possible.
“By simply being open about who he is, Haynes is helping to break down barriers and tear down closet doors,” Griffin said.
It wasn’t an easy road to acceptance for Haynes, however, and the 28-year-old has been candid about his anxiety issues relating to being closeted in order to be successful in Hollywood.
The actor also spoke to Out magazine about his coming out process with his family, and revealed that he was “told that my dad killed himself because he found out I was gay.”
Haynes received the award at Human Rights Campaign’s gala in Seattle on last night.
