"I fall in love with girls and guys. I can’t help it."From: NewNowNext
Actress Aubrey Plaza, who famously portrayed April Ludgate on the hit comedy series Parks and Recreation, all but came out as bisexual in an interview earlier this week.
Plaza opened up about her sexuality in a conversation with The Advocate after being asked about whether or not women ever come on to her.
“Oh, yeah,” she began. “I don’t mind. I know I have an androgynous thing going on, and there’s something masculine about my energy.”
“Girls are into me—that’s no secret,” she continued. “Hey, I’m into them too. I fall in love with girls and guys. I can’t help it.”
Earlier in the interview, the young actress admitted that she felt a special connection to her large gay fan base, saying, “I feel like I operate in an old-school way that only gays truly understand.” She added that her “tastes are like an older gay man’s,” which she realized after getting involved with a predominately gay community theater group in high school that “really welcomed” her.
In addition to that community, Plaza attributes much of her openness to coming from a family with many out relatives, including her aunt, uncle and younger sister. She remarked that this supportive and inclusive environment taught her from an early age that it was “OK to stand out and let your freak flag fly.”
Plaza can be seen in Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, which hits theaters today.
