National Bike to School Day is celebrated annually. Built on the popularity of National Walk to School Day, which is celebrated each October, National Bike to School Day was created to provide an opportunity for schools across the nation to join together to celebrate the energy of National Bike Month.

HISTORY
In coordination with the League of American Bicyclists’ National Bike Month, the first National Bike to School Day was celebrated on May 9, 2012. There were close to 1,000 local events in 49 states and the District of Columbia that joined together and encouraged children to safely bicycle or walk to school.
In 2013, more than 1,700 schools, in all 50 states and the District of Columbia, participated in National Bike to School Day events, which took place throughout the month. National Bike to School Day is an “unofficial” national holiday.
