Joe Dallesandro
1948—
Andy Warhol, Inc. photographed this openly bisexual former beefcake model in the same documentary style as all of their other subjects. And yet, with Dallesandro, his physical perfection made the Warhol gaze—and, by extension, ours—feel sleazy and pornographic, even in scenes that weren't...and some were. Not an actor so much as a performer or presence, Dallesandro became an underground icon, as stonily beautiful as a pono David.
