Today, editor and photographer Liam Campbell announces the arrival of issue (02) of Elska, a bi-monthly male photography and travel publication for gay men who seek an authentic view of the homosexual experience from around the world. Each issue of the 152 color page art zine is shot in a different city with local boys and local stories, celebrating the beauty of its subjects’ imperfections.
After issue (01)’s adventure in Ukraine, issue (02) of Elska took Berlin as its setting. Liam Campbell, the creative mind behind Elska says: “The Berliners we met were so full of personality and eccentricity, and the diversity was incredible – only four of the guys were actually German, but this was such a true reflection of the city’s inhabitants. Compared to the Ukrainians we shot for our first issue, Berliners were so open, daring, and quite wild – very much like their city. Almost all of Elska’s Berlin subjects wanted to do nude shoots, which I’m not complaining about, so this issue ended up rather more brazen than the first!”
Each of the fifteen men included in issue (02) wrote stories for Elska. These texts add depth and intimacy to the experience of meeting them, and readers get real insight into their lives. They wrote in German (one even wrote in his native Russian) – translated for the final issue, or in their practiced English. The words of the Elska boys are unedited, straight from the hand of the writer
Campbell concludes, “I truly fell in love with Berlin, and quite a few of the guys too… but I look forward to Elska’s year ahead, full of new cities and new men.”
Elska Magazine issue (01) is available now in selected retailers internationally, and issue (02) is released in November 2015. An updated list of stockists and details of the subscription service can be found on the Elska website.
