On October 11, National Coming Out Day, LGBT people around the world are encouraged to share their truth in whatever way feels right: an email thread to close friends and family, a public post on Facebook, or even a joyful YouTube video.
In celebration, we’re looking back at 12 major personalities who have come out since last Coming Out Day. Hopefully there will be even more next year!

Tim Cook
The Apple CEO came out publicly as gay—and as a person of faith—In a October 2014 letter to Bloomsberg Business.
“I’m proud to be gay,” he declared, “and I consider being gay among the greatest gifts God has given me.”
As the head of one of the world’s largest and most important corporations, Cook challenged the hetero-driven mythos of big business. “If hearing that the CEO of Apple is gay can help someone struggling to come to terms with who he or she is, or bring comfort to anyone who feels alone, or inspire people to insist on their equality, then it’s worth the trade-off with my own privacy.”
