Hey, check it out, sexy pics of James Lock in Gay Times magazine! Wait, who is that, you ask? Ehhh, who cares, he’s in his underwear, let’s ogle.
James is famous in the UK for starring alongside Dan Osborne on scripted reality soap opera The Only Way Is Essex, or TOWIE for short, which actually makes it sound more like a sizzling drama about the romantic lives of tow truck drivers.
The thing to love most about following British pop culture is that it’s like an alternate universe, where everyone is behaving exactly the same as Americans, but the names of everything are different. For example, this quote from James’ interview with GT:
“The Valleys is making Wales look bad, and Geordie Shore makes everyone up north look like chavs – and they’re not!”
Not sure what that means? Start by substituting “Jersey Shore” for “The Valleys” and “Trenton” for “Wales,” and you’re halfway to a comparison that works just fine in America.
But there’s one area in which British men and American men can’t really compare, and that’s sexual openness. Can you imagine an American reality star telling a reporter something like this?:
“I feel really comfortable with gay men, and between scenes I’ll always be having a laugh with Bobby. We have a lot of sexual banter and he’s always talking to me about blow jobs and telling Danielle the best way to give me one. He’s challenged her to a blow job competition – so you might see that in a season coming up! [Laughs] If the ratings ever start dropping, we’ve always got that one to pull out of the bag.”
If they can maintain that culture of free blow jobs for everyone, we definitely look forward to the American adaptation of this show.
