IN THE EARLY 16TH CENTURY, THE ARTIST MICHELANGELO CREATED A STATUE OF A YOUNG DAVID WHICH WOULD GO INTO HISTORY AS AN ICONIC RENAISSANCE PIECE AND THE REPRESENTATION OF THE PERFECT MALE FIGURE. THE DAVID WAS CREATED IN FLORENCE AND HAS SINCE THEN ALWAYS BEEN THERE. BUT SINCE A FEW YEARS THIS HISTORICAL MALE HAS GOTTEN A REAL TIME NAME-SAKE COMPETITOR, WHO LIVES AND WORKS ONLY 300 KILOMETERS NORTH WEST OF HIM: DAWID AUGUŚCIK.
Some guys try everything to build themselves a career as model. It is all they ever wanted to do. Others just arrive there and kind of land into the industry without much passion for it. Does this seem fair? No not at all. But it is the way it is. Dawid Auguścik was scouted on Internet and before he knew it he was walking a Benetton show in Milan. Exactly two months after he was contacted. The thing is, Dawid never really thought about modeling. Isn’t even really into it. He was discovered, gave it a shot, likes the fun of it and the fact it allows him to travel, and made him move from his hometown in Poland to Milan, where he resides since a few years now. And maybe, just maybe, that is just the attitude to have to make it in this highly competitive universe.
As said earlier, Dawid hails originally from Poland. He was discovered when he was about to start his studies in physical education and instead jumped to the opportunity to travel to Milan and learn about the world of modeling and fashion. His first show was for Benetton, but Dawid’s heart lies with Vivian Westwood. “
I love her crazy style and also her look is gorgeous,” Dawid explains. Looking at Dawid, he seems to fit perfectly in the Westwood ambiance. Perfect as he physically might be, that didn't stop him from indulging into a long desired wish: tattoo’s: “
I've always wanted to have tattoos. I just couldn't in the past. Until I started to make my own money. My first tattoo was really spontaneous. I was with some friends after working-out and we were like "Let's do tats!
", it was an instant decision and I went for it. My latest tattoo, on the contrary, was a big step because it's on my face. The number 21 is the lucky one for cars and we're supposed to lose 21 grams when passing away -people say it's the weight purportedly lost by a human body when the soul departed the body upon death.”
Dawid Auguścik is a free soul who was lucky enough to be born with the right attributes to be a model and then again lucky enough to be spotted by a scout. It is like it was meant to be. His free-minded attitude is a refreshing novelty in the modeling industry and his position in his professional and personal life is one of renewal. He is a renaissance man, like Michelangelo once was. And like fellow Pole Bartłomiej Chabałowski is. Bartłomiej is a photographer with a great creative vision and a sublime eye for style and perfection. So it is no surprise than when these two talented men worked together, the result is mind-blowing. When Michelangelo created his David, he could not have known this statue would become equivalent to renaissance perfection. One can only wonder what people will think year from now looking upon Bartłomiej Chabałowski’s photos of his Dawid. For sure it will be with everlasting respect and admiration.
