Former child country star Billy Gilman wowed the judges on The Voice this week with his soulful rendition of Adele’s “When We Were Young.”
Gilman first rose to prominence in 2000 with his hit “Once Voice,” which he released when he was 12. Though he stepped out of the spotlight for a while, he made headlines in 2014 when he came out as gay. At the time, he thanked fellow out country singer Ty Herndon for inspiring him to open up about his sexuality.
After finishing his audition, Gilman said, “I started out as a young county artist and had great success…to finally be here in a moment where I can finally sing the way I so badly wanted to even then, and to finally stand here and be amongst you, it truthfully is such an honor.”
Check out Billy’s amazing performance below.
