Original artwork by "Where the Wild Things Are" author Maurice Sendak is on sale in New York City.
Sotheby's also is offering his watercolors, drawings and set pieces through Dec. 18 at a selling exhibition at its Manhattan headquarters.
Included are several dozen illustrations created for his beloved children's book. They have never been offered at a public sale and represent the most complete set of "Where the Wild Things Are" to come to market.
The works were amassed over 45 years by two private collectors.
The sale includes a 1970s privately produced intaglio etching of the character Moishe. There's also a "Wild Things" cow sculpture created to help finance the American premiere of "Brundibar" at the Chicago Opera Theater.
Prices range from $3,000 to $950,000.
Sendak died in 2012.
