From: Manhunt Daily
This week I was really psyched to pick up the new issue of HomoCats, a zine by Brooklyn-based artist J. Morrison. True to its title, the issue combines queer slogans with pictures of adorable cats pulled from the internet. Printed on brightly-colored xerox paper, each page is its own little mini-revolution of awesomeness.
HomoCats is not something you want can jerk off to—well, hopefully it’s not—so I don’t know how many of you are actually interested in this. But let me go on anyway. I love how the cat/text combos seem so simple, but somehow manage to be oddly affecting. Printed in all-caps in a font resembling the incandescent lights of old theaters, these cats are pretty radical. Radical in the political sense (these cats are not fans of our health care system!) and also in the slang sense of my childhood. When this cat says “FUCK INSURANCE COMPANIES”, what kind of heartless assface can disagree?
If you’ll be in our nation’s capital anytime soon, Morrison has a HomoCats show opening tonight atTransformer (1404 P Street NW). Homocats: Fight The Power will be larger in scale than the zine, so I’m expecting the awesomeness quotient to increase exponentially.
