Marine Matthew Simmons from Nevada will represent the USA in the prestigious (as prestigious as a gay male beauty pageant can be) Mr. Gay World.
The 25-year-old posed in his uniform and stripped down to his skimpy speedo during the swimsuit round, which, being a prestigious gay male beauty pageant, we’re assuming is every round. We’re also assuming Matthew snatched 10s across the board, based on these pics alone.
According to Simmons’ Mr. Gay World USA bio:
I dream to inspire my peers to overcome the tough obstacles in their life and strive to be the best person they can, never giving up on their dreams and never losing sight of who they are. Traveling to and living in many foreign countries for the better part of my childhood has allowed me to gain a respect for people living in other parts of the world that may not be as fortunate as many Americans are. I believe this makes me relatable to a diverse range of men, giving them someone they can easily look up to.
All shade aside, the organizers of Mr. Gay World want the pageant to be more than just hunks parading around in their skivvies.
“We want to turn the competition into a showcase that uses gay for good,” executive producer and judge Jarl Haugedal said. “The Mr Gay World USA competition is a prime example of activism meets entertainment and we are so proud to see each of the competitors stick to their platforms and grow as individuals.”
The pageant’s alleged mission is to highlight LGBT discrimination and provide positive role models — as embodied by current title holder, New Zealand’s super straight-acting Andreas Derleth (below). Perhaps Simmons’ worldview will bring a bit more to the title this time around.
